"Substance Painter is the industry standard solution for 3D painting"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Adobe Substance 3D Painter?

Substance Painter supports layering of different map types such as Normal Maps, Diffuse Maps, Cavity Maps, Ambient Occlusion and more. This means you can build up details as you paint in 3D through a non destructive process. It also allows you to experiment without fear of losing your work. You can name and sort your 3D layers making it easy for other artists to pick up where you've left off.

You can hide parts of a 3D object by matte ID which is very useful when painting complex 3D objects. There are also an array of rendering options which demonstrate how your object would look inside your game. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adobe Substance 3D Painter?

A tool like Substance Painter should have a dedicated unwrap UVs tool. As of the writing of this review you'll have to rely on outside applications to do this process. Since having proper UVs is essential to being able to paint without stretching, it seems like a feature that should be integrated into the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Adobe Substance 3D Painter:

If you're serious about game development you need Substance Painter. It's as important to your pipeline as Maya/Max and zBrush are. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Adobe Substance 3D Painter solving and how is that benefiting you?

Substance Painter allows you to be able to paint your 3D model in a natural way. Traditionally you'd flatten your UVs out and have to rely on something like Photoshop to paint almost blindly. If you wanted to see your results you'd have to export the texture and then import it into 3D software. zBrush and Mari introduced poly painting but neither are as intuitive as Substance Painter.

My game development studio relies on Substance Painter to create incredible visuals that would otherwise be near impossible to produce. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
