The updates that have improved InDesign's ability to import from and work with other software are very helpful. Even though you can no longer buy the software, the monthly cost for the Creative Suite is doable for most individuals/businesses. I've had occasional issues with crashing. Granted, my setup isn't top-of-the-line anymore, but because of the dozens (or even hundreds) of linked items that appear in many long InDesign publications, there are a lot of errors that may corrupt the file and require a guess-and-check approach to saving an uncorrupted file.
