If you don’t have a solid internal technical lead, the onboarding process may feel a bit “sink or swim.”

I use Vultr to run a server in the cloud for an IoT invention, and it was an easy setup. I really like that it's consistent on uptime, has a server viewer, and I can SSH into the server since I'm comfortable with the command line. The setup offered me a choice of operating systems, like Ubuntu LTS, and I was able to harden my server and set up the necessary MQTT protocol quickly, sending data within about an hour.
