Four years, three major versions, one production store

The plugin architecture is why we chose it and why we are still on it four years later. Everything we needed that Vendure does not ship — a national carrier integration, a fiscal register, a local payment provider, ERP synchronisation — was a plugin written against documented extension points, not a patch against core. We run 65 first-party plugins in production on a single store, and none of them required forking the framework. The upgrade path is the second thing, and it is underrated. We started on 1.8.3 in November 2022; the same production store runs 3.7.2 today, through three major versions, with no re-platform and no feature freeze. Migrations are generated and reviewable, and breaking changes are documented honestly rather than minimised. Being TypeScript and NestJS end to end matters more than it sounds. The API surface is typed, GraphQL codegen means our Next.js storefront and our React Native app share generated types against the same Shop API, and reading core source is a normal part of debugging rather than a last resort — which is also how we ended up sending fixes back upstream.

Vendure’s Flexible, Developer-Friendly Foundation for Custom E-Commerce

What I like most about Vendure is its flexibility and developer-friendly architecture. Its headless approach, GraphQL API, TypeScript foundation, and plugin system gave us the freedom to build a highly customized e-commerce solution without being restricted by a rigid platform. We were able to implement custom business logic, integrations, inventory workflows, and a tailored storefront while keeping the codebase structured and maintainable. Vendure also made it possible to deploy quickly without sacrificing scalability or long-term extensibility.

Headless commerce on the stack our engineers already build in

We adopted Vendure because it runs on the exact stack our team already works in every day: TypeScript, NestJS, GraphQL, and a React admin. That meant getting productive took days, not weeks. The real draw is extensibility: the plugin system, custom fields, and strategy patterns let us tailor catalog, pricing, and checkout logic for complex B2B cases without forking the core. Being open-source and self-hostable gives us full control of the code and data, with no GMV or per-order fees, and the Shop and Admin GraphQL APIs are clean and well documented.
