Plain, predictable VPS that stays out of the way

How little time it took to get from signing up to a running server. Creating the account was a two-minute affair: no phone calls, no scans of my ID, no waiting on manual approval, and the VPS in Riga answered over SSH almost immediately after I paid. The client area is a standard hosting panel, which I mean as a compliment — services, invoices, payment methods and tickets all sit exactly where you expect them, so there is nothing to learn. Invoices are issued ahead of the renewal date, which means I plan the payment instead of worrying about losing the box over a missed one. The network was the real surprise: Ookla runs from the server itself, weeks apart, came back between 3.8 and 5.1 Gbps down and 0.5 to 1 Gbps up, well past anything I expected at this price. They are also the ones who reach out about planned work — the notice for an overnight maintenance window arrived nearly three weeks ahead, with the reason and the maximum expected downtime spelled out.

Advertised latency matched the delivered server

Latency and route quality from Eastern Europe. I tested their public data centre IPs before ordering — Warsaw averaged 30 ms from Minsk with only 1 ms of jitter, Vilnius 33 ms with 4 ms. I chose Warsaw for the lower jitter rather than the lower average. The delivered server matched the test figure at ~34 ms with zero packet loss across repeated runs, so the advertised connectivity is the actual connectivity. That is not always the case with budget VPS providers. Real KVM virtualisation with full kernel control. I needed to load the WireGuard kernel module, which container-based plans typically won't allow. Ubuntu 24.04 from their template, one apt upgrade and reboot, module loaded. The assigned IPv4 was clean across all 60 blacklists I checked — no need to request a replacement address. The web VNC console saved me a support ticket when my SSH client mangled the initial root password. Being able to reset it directly from the panel is the kind of thing you only appreciate when you need it.
