Essential data residency and cross-border compliance platform for multi-jurisdiction regulatory audit

From an IT audit and regulatory compliance perspective, InCountry addresses one of the toughest cross-border data governance problems. It enables organizations to run global cloud applications (like Salesforce, ServiceNow, and internal ERPs) while keeping sensitive personally identifiable information (PII) and financial records localized within specific sovereign jurisdictions. The platform can dynamically tokenize and redact regulated data before any cross-border transmission, which helps create a rock-solid, auditable data lineage. In external SOC 2, ISO 27001, and local data protection audits, it offers clear evidence that localization controls are in place, without disrupting day-to-day business operations.

Isolating regional customer PII with format-preserving tokenization without rewriting our database schema

The biggest win for me was being able to enforce strict regional data residency for customer shipping records without refactoring our central PostgreSQL tables or breaking existing Bean Validation annotations in our Java backend. We used InCountry Border alongside their REST API to intercept incoming order payloads containing sensitive buyer PII-specifically customer names, residential delivery addresses, phone numbers, and emails. Instead of storing raw cleartext in our central database or failing strict schema validations when replacing fields with random UUIDs, we configured InCountry's emailPersistent and alphaNumericPersistent redaction algorithms. That allowed the proxy to swap real customer emails and phone numbers with format-preserving tokens before the payload ever hit our Spring Boot controllers or downstream Kafka topics. Our central fulfillment logic could still group orders by customer token and run normally, while the actual AES-GCM encrypted PII remained isolated inside the local country Point-of-Presence.
