Cocos2d-x is a cross platform game engine. A game engine provides many components within the developer's workflow. The main components of Cocos2d-x are; Scene, Transition, Sprite, Menu, Audio, Physics and more.

Cocos2d is a cross-platform game development framework. Cocos2d also includes its subparts Cocos2dx-js and Cocos2d Creator, which make game development less painful. The API is extensive, offering features such as scene management, particle and animation effects. The layer system works well with games. Programmers can write code in C++, and there is a JS port for those comfortable with it. Being open source, fixing bugs and delving into the source code is easy to optimize existing code. The best thing about Cocos2d is SDKbox. Adding external modules such as ad modules or social media modules is quite easy while integrating with your code. High-quality games written in Cocos2d include Charbuster, Hill Climb Racing, Castle Clash, and Dragon City.

I didn’t have experience with Cocos2D when I first use this program and I lacked any Apple hardware to follow along with the tutorials that you get online. Although this was my case, I was still able to learn and follow along thanks to their images of what the game would look like after given code examples. I now feel more confident with the fact that I can work in an Apple environment, and development full games utilizing Cocos2D.
