What do you like best about UltraEdit?

None, compared to using the Notepad++ and WinMerge combination Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

Over time, it's become a "brick," slow and huge. For example, WinMerge is 10 times faster at both loading and comparing documents than UltraCompare. They also have terrible customer service; I reported some major problems I was having with UltraCompare, and after two years, they haven't been resolved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A reliable, purpose-built editor that gets the job done"
5/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

UltraEdit is a functional and stable editor. It supports customizable macros to automate repetitive tasks—like log cleanup or bulk file formatting—saving us significant time. Its true multi-language support makes it easy to work across python, C++, bash, XML, JSON, and more—with accurate syntax highlighting and clear structure across the board. It handles large files effortlessly and has proven remarkably stable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

While not minimalist by design, UltraEdit prioritizes functionality over aesthetics. Everything is where it should be. It's not trying to be everything, but what it does, it does exceptionally well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Poor customer service"
0/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

I can't speak to this as I'm responsible for procurement, not use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

They refused to refund an auto renewal of a 2 year subscription due to their "Internal Refund Policy". I don't care how useful a tool is, if the customer service is poor it doesn't matter. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great IDE!"
4/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

It is a well rounded IDE for a good price. I can do all my programing for multimple languages in it and replaced my aging outdated and discontinued IDEs of old allwoing me to continue to continue programing like I want. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

While it is easy to jump in and start programing it does have a bit of a learning curve to fully learn it and get the most out of it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"I'm not necessarily a business user, just a common guy who's spent $1000 on UltraEdit"
5/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

I like that UltraEdit works on multiple platforms and allows up to 3 installs per license. This allows me to have a copy on each of my machines so I don't have to juggle where my licenses are activated / installed as I change machines I'm working on.

It's also nice that it includes a hex editor, allowing me to find hidden or incompatible characters quickly. The large file size manipulation is also a significant bonus since many files I look at are > 50 MB. UE and UE Studio make viewing and modifying these files a breeze. Another feature I used quite a bit some years back is the seamless conversion to multiple file types (I used ASCII <==> IBM EBCDIC daily for quite a while.

Having all of these features, plus integrated FTP, wordfile support, column edit and other smaller QOL things which I don't know how to quantify meaningfully but are sorely missed whenever I use other editors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

Since UltraEdit is such an all-encompassing text editing software, it can certainly be overkill for simple every-day tasks. I do believe that with everything this software does, it is a trade-off I am willing to make for all of the benefits it offers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The ONLY editor for large data sets"
5/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

Without a doubt, it's ability to handle very large data sets. Working with data that sometimes can be several tens of thousands of lines, it's great to have an editor that can open and paginate through so much at once. In addition, it's columnar mode is a godsend for when you need to adjust data or insert something into every line. Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about it's search feature - complete with support for regex as well as being able to generate new files off of the found data! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

With all it's features, it can be hard at times to find what you are looking for. As someone who has been using it for well over 15 years now, the menus can get overwhelming at times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"UltraEdit is a powerful text editor and coding software"
5/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

UltraEdit is the most powerful tool for editing text and writing code. There are multiple languages supported for writing code. We can reformat the JSON or any other file types if there are not formatted well with just a mouse click. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

The cost of the license is a bit higher. There is no free version of this software available. It is a bit complex for new users as so many options are available on the menu bar. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easily edit large files with UltraEdit"
4.5/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

I absolutely love UltraEdit's automated features, which allow me to quickly and efficiently perform tasks that would otherwise require multiple keystrokes. In addition, the larger file sizes can be edited much faster in UE compared to other editors - a must-have feature for quickly navigating changes in large EDI files! The ability to toggle hex and column modes makes it much easier to make changes to text documents of any size. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

I have nothing negative to say about UltraEdit. It is an incredibly reliable and versatile program that continues to exceed my expectations with each update. The features it provides, such as syntax highlighting and macro recording, are extremely useful and make programming easier than ever before. I am extremely grateful for the impact this software has had on my development processes - thank you UltraEdit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"I can't say enough good things about UltraEdit and the suite of UltraFind and UltraCompare"
4.5/5
What do you like best about UltraEdit?

Ability to handle very large files (gigabyte size), column mode to decode .csv, Python mode to indent Python code, XML mode to highlight sections Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

The only complaint I have with the suite is the speed of UltraFind. I search very large directories (600GB) for content. Ultrafind is VERY SLOW (20-30 minutes) when searching content. Even though I am running Ultrafind on a 32 core machine with solid state disks , Ultrafind only uses 1 core and very little of my disk bandwidth. I expect that if Ultrafind were multithreaded that I could reduce that search time by at least10x. Ultrafind needs to be multithreaded to take advantage of the latest in multicore CPU's and very high speed (7000MB/sec) solid state disks Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about UltraEdit?

I love connecting to the database and seeing what I would do in an SSH connection just using ultra edit. With that, I can open files, edit them, and save them back to the actual server with no FTP needed. This is handy when trying to update a file on the server and having the code highlights and helpful tools.

I also like that if I am working on the web or an HTML, I can use the tools in ultra edit to see and edit my code right in the ultra edit.

Lastly, the Ultra COMPARE is the biggest reason I want and continue to get Ultra Edit if I am making changes or putting in an upgrade, I can compare the upgraded file to the customized ones and easily create and integrate my changes. This saves so much time for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about UltraEdit?

Not to many dislikes with all the different tools I can't really complain and the cost is also reasonable I hope it stays that way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
