## About UltraEdit
UltraEdit is a text and code editor built for work that general-purpose editors often struggle with: large files, complex data manipulation, and security-sensitive workflows. It has been in the market for more than 30 years, is used by over 4 million users worldwide, and is trusted by enterprise customers across the Fortune 100, 500, and 1000. Individual users choose UltraEdit when everyday editors start to hit their limits. Common use cases include working with very large files, running advanced search and replace, using column and block editing, and handling more complex text and data manipulation. Organizations choose UltraEdit when they need a more secure and supportable editor behind sensitive workflows. That includes teams in banking, insurance, healthcare, government, and other regulated or risk-sensitive environments where unsupported tools can create too much uncertainty. Key capabilities: - Performance under heavy tasks, including support for files above 4 GB - Advanced search and replace - Column and block editing for structured data tasks - Complex text and data manipulation - Offline activation for restricted environments - Commercial support with priority handling for critical concerns Often called the "Swiss army knife" of text editors, UltraEdit is a tool that no IT professional should be without. From programming and project management to large file manipulation, from data sorting and text record formatting to remote (FTP/SFTP) file operations, from advanced file searching and text data reformatting, there's almost no problem that UltraEdit can't solve in the world of text editing. UltraEdit is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux and is backed by a professional development team and support staff.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rob C. | (Re)Insurance Solutions Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 12, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It is both simply a text editor while at the same time being one of the most powerful and feature-filled text and data tools.
It keeps getting better.
Powerful integrated capabilities.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Nothing, having used it since the mid-1990s

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Reasons you may want to choose UltraEdit:
- Very active development and highly current in spite of being a mature, 25 year old product
- It has never lost its ability to be a simple text editor
- It has features and capabilities I don't think you'll find anywhere else in one product
- Its capability to handle multi-Gigabyte files
- Fast
- Powerful programming capabilities and accelerators

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

UltraEdit has saved me massive work efforts for over 25 years and allowed me to do things I would not have been able to do otherwise as an Enterprise, Data and Solutions Architect. I use multiple tools together, and it plays a vital role along with word processors, spreadsheets, database management systems, and programming IDEs. Some of my uses:
- Simple note-taking
- File text comparison
- Drafting / Wordsmithing
- Programming editor
- Data analysis
- Data manipulation
- Bulk search and replace
- Codepage conversions
- Hex editing
- Columnar text and data manipulation
- Structured language highlighting and formatting
- Massive file review and editing
- XML, XSL, json and HTML editing

 ### 4. Using UltraEdit since the late 1990's

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt R. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Well, this has changed over the years. Early on, I loved the ability to record and play macros. I also loved the column editing mode, especially when working with fixed-width files. Today, the biggest love I have is its ability to work with large DB exports without any lag. I've had 2+GB DB exports that UltraEdit handles without issue.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There really aren't any dislikes. Forcing my hands to type something, I would suggest storing settings in the cloud so that when I install on a new computer, I don't have to change all of the settings.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In today's world, the biggest problem that UltraEdit resolves is the ability to edit large database exports.

 ### 5. The best code editor on the market!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen J. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It is quick to load, has powerful features, One of the features I like the most is the Syntax Highlighting that adjusts to the type of source file you are working with.
I have been using UltraEdit for nearly 20 years now. It has grown tremendously rom a basic Notepad on Steroids to the product it is today. They are really on top of
regularly adding new enhancements and any fixes necessary. I love being able to customize a toolbar with the Icons of tasks I use the most!
You can't find a better code editor, and when you add the rest of the Companion Programs, you have all the best tools at your fingertips!

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There are almost too many settings to choose from (if that is possible)!

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love using the Hex Editor to scan through .exe and .dll files. UltraEdit allows me to get so much more done than without it! My productivity has increased a lot!

 ### 6. The best text editor hands down, and keeps getting better.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike B. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Powerful text editor that can handle almost any format you throw at it. Big files, small files, multiple files. Built-in FTP capabilities. So glad I purchased a lifetime license when it was available.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

My only complaint is that sometimes there are minor cosmetic glitches with the windows overlapping or not quite sizing perfectly, which does not affect performance or use.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

There's a 30 day free trial, give it a shot and see if you love it as much as I do.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Opening and editing huge files has always been a challenge, and UltraEdit handles it with ease. The built-in FTP features let you edit remote data on the fly.

 ### 7. Great experience using UltraEdit and UltraCompare over the past 20yrs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rob D. | S, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 01, 2018

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit is a powerful editor that has so many great features and is easy to use. I would say I like the file compare features best along with column editing for some of my engineering tasks

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Add Intel HEX edit capability. Nothing else that I have not been able to do with these tools.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Great for code development. I used it extensively for programming automated test equipment in the semiconductor industry. Benefit has been powerful functions that speed up development time. Now I use it for firmware development.

 ### 8. excellent customer service from a well trustworthy company who supply great software

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I like the ease and integration of use of all the programs basically integrated into one,you dont have to quit and go to another program to edit something it can basically be done from the one interface which i really do like, software is also very speedy at uploading and downloading as well.
Customer service is just astonishing you really are treated as a valued customer which i like most of all when i purchase software customer service is really important and 10/10 for that one answers from customer service are also very quick within the space of 5 minutes in my case.
Overall Highly recommended if you want a quality suite of software products with excellent customer support included dont think twice just purchase their software you definitely wont be dissapointed in fact you will be more than glad that you did 10/10 for both quality and customer service as well.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There is absolutely nothing that i dont like about the software no problems at all.Very satisfied indeed

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

My advice to anyone thinking of purchasing and using ultra edit/ultra ftp is just to buy the software as you will be more than glad that you did from ease of use of the full suite of tools to the outstanding customer support.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ultra edit/ultra ftp is helping me on a daily basis to solve the problem of uploading and downloading my files from my dedicated server,so yes it really is required on a daily basis to access my remote and even local files

 ### 9. UltraEdit

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Olin M. | Conversion Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

There are *SO* many great features this tool has. The ones I have used are:
- Find/Replace (in single aor multpile files).
- Regex based find and replace functionality (Ultraedit Regex or Perl or Unix).
- Hex editing.
- Simplistic macro recording/editing/creating.
- Sector-based file editing (NO file size limit!).
- GREAT help and support - Speak to a LIVE person when you call.
- Great regular hints to tell you about features you may not know.
- Very customizable interface.
- Column/block mode editing.
- (Customizable) Syntax Highlighting for multiple file types (customizing will take some learning).
- Video help on their site AND a YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/ultraedit).
- Built-in file compare functionality.
- FTP Integration.
- Robust macro language and javascript scripting capabilities.
- built in sorting.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I've found nothing about this tool I do not like.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Get this tool. I have used this tool since 1998, and it has been worth EVERY penny of the lifetime license I bought.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Decreased editing/data cleanup time by hoursrs in some cases.
- Simple macros alleviate repetitive tasks.
- Syntax highlighting improves file/code readability.
- data reformatting at the touch of a button (via macros).
- find missing/hidden characters in data files with hex editor.
- No issues editing huge files.

 ### 10. An excellent choice for programmers and anybody else that needs a lean plain-text editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Aside from all of the plain text functionality, which is what initially led me to UltraEdit, I find the ability to cloud sync to be very valuable for sharing settings between my computers as well as backing up my data. The aesthetics and ability to do some fine-tuning on the theme and appearance is also a little something extra that I enjoy.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I wish that UltraEdit offered a standalone purchase option. The subscription model seems out of place for a text editor, especially when there are so many options on the market, although none as well-featured as UltraEdit.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I frequently need to format text offline for scripting or to scribble down coding ideas. The ability to copy and paste plain text to copy and paste into whatever I am working on later is mandatory.

 ### 11. UltraEdit - The world's best text editor!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter L. | Programmer / Analyst II, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Hex Edit, Regex, Column Mode, Low Memory Usage, Fast Find in Files

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The only oddity is occasional syntax highlight issues when using HTML and/or PHP. Certain operators don't highlight correctly.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Many, many times in business, we receive files that need cleanup. UltraEdit is my go-to, because of the regex support.

 ### 12. Ultraedit Pro 5

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alvaro F Ramos P. | Consultor de Sistemas, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 24, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Languages, column mode, macros. If I were to say everything, it wouldn't even fit here.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

the current price, too expensive for Brazil. For my use, I don't remember anything additional being necessary. I still use the old version that runs on Windows inside the Virtual Machine.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it as a text editor, for subtitles, languages, book assemblies, educational material, and at the same time I create in Word, Excel, and PDFs.

 ### 13. Best available text editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simon P. | Professor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Uedit is pwerful but intuitive and easy to use.
Column edit mode is excellent and beyond useful.
Side-by-side file comparisons with high-lighted line differences.
Quick and easy handling of multiple open files.
Hex edit mode.
Handling large files. I've had files of over 11 million lines that openned just fine.
Ability to inserting a sequence of numbers in columns.
Quick and intuitive recording of macros.
Lots of help on the internet for solving problems, e.g. where to find options in menus.
Quick response times from Uedit support.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I've been a user for over 20 years and there's nothing about Uedit that I dislike. The highlighting modes for Python and HTML are handy and it would be nice to have something similar for Fortran. Uedit is generally quick to load, but I've a feeling that the 64 bit version loads slightly more slowly than the old 32 bit version.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

If handling text files is something you do often, then consider Uedit.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Uedit constantly for editing input files for numerical analysis programs. This involves editing text files of course, but also file comparisons, formating data, writing computer code and other scripts. The quick switching between line and column editing is especially useful.

 ### 14. I have used UltraEdit for 15 years, all day every day. It is my most favorite tool.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kent H. | Vice President, Data Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit is very intuitive to use and set up the way you want.
As a professional SAS programmer, I make use of macros, templates, and custom tools to run my programs.
I use its comparison tools to track changes over time and love features like columnar editing, and writing javascript extensions.
I like that it handles large files well, and fast.
I like that it handles double-byte fonts flawlessly.
The support has been really great. I even made a feature request, knowing it wouldn't be a high priority, and 2 years later they contacted me to let me know that my feature had been implemented, and asked me to test the feature in a pre-release. I was very impressed.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Not much I can't think of things I'd change. It is my go-to tool for editing non-document text.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

UltraEdit is the most complete source-code editor for situations that do not require an IDE.
When deciding on an editor, look for ease of use, management within your organization.
We have found that UltraEdit is very easy to maintain, and roll out to employees' machines.
We have the employee start UltraEdit up which creates all the necessary internal links, then we can overwrite the defaults with our corporate setup and in about 2 minutes we can have a user ready to work. Also, look to see if UltraEdit has syntax highlighting for the language you'll be using. It has a vast array of those, and if not, a custom one can be built.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a SAS programmer, and UltraEdit's custom tools allow me to send jobs to a back-end server that works very well.
I also frequently edit very large files, and many tools balk at the size. Ultraedit does not. It handles them very well.

 ### 15. Great powerful editing tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Its editing capability, such as vertical selection of text and applying the change simultaneously. It's another capability that allows using regular expression search and mass find and replace operation. File/script comparison make easier with this as I can easily compare two versions of a file and see the differenance.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I do not think I have found anything so far that makes it cons. As an editor, it has many features that help in many ways.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

It makes your job easy to manage text files or program scripts. Features include regular expression search and replace, comparison between multiple versions of a file, mass editing etc.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Text file or Program scripts to be managed efficiently.

 ### 16. Perfect editot for huge or strange files

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

The most important benefit is the capability of handling huge files (e.g. event logs). It's also great to get useful text strings out of binaries.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Up to now I did not find any things to dislike.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

search and compare at your own, quite likely you will end up using UltraEdit

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The most important benefit is the capability of handling huge files (e.g. event logs). It's also great to get useful text strings out of binaries.

 ### 17. Long time user

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Column mode, record macros, split screen, saves work when PC reboots, follow logs files as they update, search line summary.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

When viewing a log file that continues to update constantly, I constantly get a message asking to refresh the file. No option to wait for 1/5/10 minutes.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making changes to network devices and writing configuration scripts. Saves time and helps prevent errors in my configuration scripts.

 ### 18. Ultraedit is a great file editing tool for developers!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Ultraedit is easy to use, and blazingly fast!

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Ultraedit has so many features, it's sometimes difficult to find what I'm looking for.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I develop code in a very efficient manner when using UltraEdit.

 ### 19. UltraEdit Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

The easiest way to select any text in any form. You have multiple options in ultraedit like column mode, row mode etc to select your text according to your need.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The user interface is something I don't like in ultraedit.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To open any text and select data from anywhere in that text file or any other file.

 ### 20. My editor of choice

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arne S. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Ultraedit has been my text editor of choice since I bought a lifetime upgrade license as a poor student. Back then, it was one of the most sofisticated text editing tools in existence, and I loved the power of scripting, hex editing, html support and built-in ftp client. While I often use other editors for my work as a software developer, I regularly return to UltraEdit because some features are just easier to use, or only available there. It does great work on huge files, and the column editing features are a life saver.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I don't enjoy using UltraEdit for software development. To me, it lacks many features of a full-fledged IDE, and so I switch between two or three editors depending on the purpose of my editing.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I regularly use UltraEdit for generating boilerplate code from lists of properties, regex replacing in huge files, and for prettifying xml, json and other formats for easier reading.

 ### 21. Its the best Text editor for a Developer.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manjula R. | Senior Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I can create Mass SQLS using the insert and Fill functionality. Ultra Compare helps to compare large files with quite a few details. Makes my developer job lot easier.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

It takes a while to open big files, can it be a little bit faster.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

It is a very good product

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HEX mode helps me remove invalid characters from files received from Vendors. Can create Mass SQLs a bit faster.

 ### 22. Best doggone text editor ever!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Writing and Editing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I've been using UltraEdit for over 20 years now. I got introduced to it while doing web programming way back then and have never gone back to any other text editor since. Back then I was using a Windows PC, but when I switched to a Mac about 2005, I purchased an PC emulator just so I could continue to use UltraEdit. For years I bugged them to produce a Mac version and they finally came through with one. The number of features this editor has are far too numerous to mention. To show you how responsive this company is, a few years back I suggested that it would be nice if one could run multiple instances of UltraEdit at the same time. Less than 3 weeks ago I got a notice that I could download a new beta version having that feature and give it a try. Great product backed by a great company.

P.S. I love UltraCompare, another of their products also and use it a lot.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The one disadvantage of having such a powerful editor is that it takes time to master it. I find that after searching for some special feature and failing to find it, I have to drop a note to support and nine times out of ten they come back and tell me that the program does indeed support that feature and here is where to find it.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Give this editor a try first. In my opinion it is the finest text editor available bar none. It has all the bells and whistles one could imagine. I can't recommend it too much.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No special problems. I just use it for everything. I use it for Perl and JavaScript editing and for virtually all my text editing needs. In particular I love two features it has. One is the ability to go into column mode where I can insert and modify specific columns of text on multiple lines. I use this feature a lot. Second is the ability to show my text in hexadecimal format. I use this feature quite frequently also.

 ### 23. LONG time user

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roger W. | PMC Member, Apache Pivot, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

So, first of all, I appreciate the integrity of the company, which to me is as important as the features of the software.
As far as features, it's hard to say, but I use the multi-file search and replace constantly. Use the built-in FTP a lot also. It's hard to say what I like the best, because it just works. And I've been using it almost from the beginning back in the 80's or 90's ... can't even remember.
I think overall, the constant improvement is the best thing -- if there is something missing you can almost count on it showing up *soon* because of these folks' commitment.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Actually, I'm struggling right now switching from the Windows to the Mac version, and re-learning the navigation keys is proving difficult. But that's not UltraEdit's fault. LOL

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is my "go to" editor for everything. So, pretty much all my day-to-day work as a software engineer depends on it. Well, depended ... new job makes me use Eclipse, but ...

 ### 24. Long Time UltraEdit User

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Frances A. | Project Director, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2017

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I have been a long time user since 2005 version 11.0 and over the years the developers of UltraEdit has improved many of the features accessible by user friendly drop menus. I initially purchased this program to work with a stats program and it was not difficult to take advantage of some of the features when I was first learning to use it.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I honestly cannot think of anything I do not like about UltraEdit. I have followed this company's products over 12 years and have seen all the improvements made making the program user friendly.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

UltraEdit is a great program with constant improvements of the features. I have seen it grow from version 11.0 to version 28.0 over the past 16 years!

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have not had much of an opportunity to use it recently at work because my work computer is limited of what can be installed on it. I need administrative rights to install programs. I did have it on my previous work computer which made it convenient to be able to toggle my work from home to work. Sadly, I cannot do this at my current job. But I do keep up with the latest updates when I receive email notifications.

 ### 25. Simple the best text editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I have been using Ultraedit since the 1.0 days. Ultraedit provides the best flexibility and usability when it comes to text editing acrosss multiple platforms and large files. While notepad++ works, Ultraedit blows the capability out of the water when it comes to file size editing and simple use.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There is very little I do not like about Ultraedit, the only thing I think I wish I had is the ability to use its big brother, Ultraedit Studio on a Mac or Linux platform....

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ultraedit allows me to search/edit large files, log and other types, over several GB worth with ease without hanging the application or system. It also allows me to provide syntax highlighting to make readability easier and even hex review when troubleshooting system. It solves my troubleshooting woes and helps make system support and security tasks that much simpler.

 ### 26. Best Editor Ever

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael K. | Senior Software Consulting Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2018

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I've been using IDM products for years. Not only are the products great but the customer service is excellent too. They always answer my questions, take my occasional bug report seriously, and are just nice people.
When people tell me how good their text editor is (Notepad++, etc) I always tell them that UE is better and does more. Because it does.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I can find very little to complain about with IDM. I've had complaints in the past, told them, and they fixed them!

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

It is the best text editor out there. There is so much that it will do. Compare it against your favorite text editor, UE is probably better. Better than anything I've used.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Too numerous to list - everything from logging work done on projects to keeping outlines of books I am working on. The outlining capabilities are great. UltraCompare is indispensable for comparing text files, Word docs, Excel docs, etc. Much better for DOCX, XLSX files than anything I have been able to find including Microsoft tools.

 ### 27. Best app for viewing - Ultraedit

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Ultraedit has options for automatically aligning the content according to the file extension. It helps to open big files easily. Good app for viewing the content.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Sometimes it converts to hexadecimal formats which is annoying and we cannot return back to the original format which is the one thing which is disappointing in ultraedit

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ultraedit is the best app for content viewing compared to the notepad and notepad ++. It helps to view all kinds of files and shows in different colour which increases viewability

 ### 28. If UE were human we would be married

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis d. | eLearning Systems Developer & Systems Administrator, Insurance, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2017

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I use UltraEdit all day, every day - at work and at home. It's open on my desktop the whole day - with a dozen different documents all open at the same time! That's thanks to the wonderful tabbed document display.

I use UltraEdit for a million things! From programming and coding to sysadmin tasks to creating and editing .csv files. I've created a macro that makes keeping track of my work hours as simple as pressing the F5 key whenever I start and stop work on a particular project. I couldn't live without UltraEdit!

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I really wish it had the functionality of a full IDE for PHP programming. I find it a bit restrictive when writing PHP code and sometimes I have to jump into Eclipse when I want to trace through tricky code or when I'm trying to decipher PHP code written by alien programmers from Mars who didn't bother to write any documentation.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

If you need to read any text based file, hex edit binary files, compare versions of files... you simply can't go wrong with UltraEdit.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been using UltraEdit for more than 17 years. I could write a book about everything I've used UltraEdit for.

 ### 29. Exceptional flexibility, deep scope of features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jim B. | MIS Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I like that it is exceptionally feature-rich yet can present a working environment that is clean and lean.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The macro function can lag or hang when processing hundreds or thousands of items. Macros are very powerful and valuable, but this one area has been an issue for many years for me.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Over time, UltraEdit can be expensive if you keep up with the updates. They now use a subscription model, so if you see yourself using UltraEdit long-term, consider a lifetime license. It's pricey upfront, but I've been using UltraEdit for almost two decades, and the lifetime license was well worth it. Also, if you have issues, don't hesitate to contact UltraEdit Support. They are very helpful!

UltraEdit has so many features, but you can still keep your working environment is clean and lean. It launches quickly, and it doesn't get in the way.

One of the best features is its Word Files. These are files that contain keywords and syntax of many programming languages. They have an extensive library, and they are fully customizable, so you can create your own if you can't find the one you need.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use UltraEdit to view and edit EDI files as part of my job. The HEX editor, Macros, and custom Word Files lets me tailor the environment to exactly what I need, making me much more productiive.

 ### 30. Very effective editing, even for large, clumsy files.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mario D. | Senior Energy Market Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Speed, snappiness, agility, low memory footprint, interface, customization of the interface, ability to run it on Linux.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Nothing really. The software is unmatched in its masterful abilities and performance.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Recommended.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing and viewing larger files, multiple lines at the time.

 ### 31. Best Editor on the planet been using it since version 2.0

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael K. | CEO, Managing Director, Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

The ability to run macros and script batch processing is a huge time saver. And with the ability to highlight to almost any type programming language also makes a great editor to work from.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I don't have anything that I am not happy with.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

It just plain works, is error-free, headache-free, has easy macro and batch processing, and works great for stripping out text and log file.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Batch processing and the ability to easily write scripts to automation is amazing.

 ### 32. It's My GoTo Editor

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Burton C. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I have been using this product since 2009 and it's still the editor I go to when I need to work on HTML, PHP, or just fix a config file. It's especially good on large text files. It handles everything I throw at it. I have it on my Mac and Windows computers. It's the only editor that in my dock/taskbar. I bought a copy of UltraEdit for every member of my team. They are very responsive to questions and have a can-do attitude to fix a problem.

They are always updating the product to incorporate features that make editing easier and faster.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Sometimes the Mac version is a little behind the Windows versions. I use my Mac more and I have to wait for some of the new features which are usually useful.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Good solid text editor. Even better as part of UEStudio

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy and fast editing of files.

 ### 33. UltraEdit is awesome but beginning to show it's age

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gary C. | Director of Software Development (was Trafficcast), Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

As far as the actual act of text editing goes, UltraEdit is absolutely fantastic. Far and away the best text editor I've ever used. The macro creation in particular is very useful and was easy for me to get my head around. Additionally printing and font handling are well done, and the editor is available on multiple platforms and subscriptions provide for use on all platforms. The editor exposes all of the usable features in a ribbon interface standard for these kinds of tools.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Currently, there's no integration for LSP, which most modern text editors require. I understand that this is likely due to the split between UltraEdit and UltraEdit Studio, but considering it's become a standard feature on other text editors, the absence is conspicuous. Also, it limits the number of installs at any one time to 2. I have more than two machines around my house that I use regularly -- in my workshop, my laptop, my bedroom, the kitchen, etc. A privacy-protection scheme that didn't limit installs would be very useful. The other downside is that although the editor is available for multiple platforms via subscription, lifetime license holders are limited to one platform.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm mainly editing xml and json, as well as scripts. The ability to work on remote files with FTP is the key feature I've used there. Being able to make those changes on my server remotely, easily, is a key feature.

 ### 34. I use it for LAMP, web, PHP, C and C, C++

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gary GMGJ J. | LAMP stack, Front End, Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2017

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It is full featured, fast and easy to use. Using Ctags with it makes looking at large code bases really easy. Support is responsive, bugs are fixed quickly. Its extendable, I have 14 user tools integrated with editor:
Php syntax checking, Javascript Lint , a number of Php standards analysis tools , Minifiers , debug helpers etc. I really like the Lists features, I have 12 different categories where I keep notes, examples etc of very frequently used material. I can click on a keyword and hit the appropriate search, band zoom full documentation. It has good code page support, I can switch between UTF-8 and Windows 1252 easily. Macros are easy to create and the forums have at least one guy who does a nice job of helping people out. Thank you mofi!

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I wish I had bought the Ultrastudio version for more source code browsing features etc. I use the linux version, however, the last time I used it I was less than thrilled. I switched to using winscp and putty for doing remote connections.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Its a great tool. The left context click is just AWESOME, and customizbale

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My main development tool

 ### 35. There are good editors, great editors, excellent editors and there is Ultraedit

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George M. | Analyste commerciale principale, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It is feature rich, it's powerful and it works exactly as expected. IDM's quality put to shame almost everybody, it's the *only* product that I trust to use their beta versions in a production environment. They have replied each enquiry I ever had within a business day and if a bug is discovered and verified they provide a test version usually within no more than two-three business days and the final fix comes in a maintenance release and IDM provides several several of them each year.

I first bought Ultraedit circa 2003 (if i recall correctly) and I haven't look back since.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

That I didn't realize -and it is my fault- until recently that Ultra Compare is offered for free in the basic subscription plan and I had paid upgrade to a competitor product.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use UltraEdit mainly fo all things text editing, for example searching and replacing in multiple files using regular expressions , use its search and replace facilities to test syntax of regular expressions, syntax highlighting in XML & PLSQL, JSON & XML manager, even as note taking!

Furthermore the ability to share settings, macros and scripts between my work laptop and my home computer made its use even better.

 ### 36. Ultra Edit is Great

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marty H. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

For me the best feature is the ease of use. When needed there are many options for editing viewing code. One of the best Hex viewer/editors around.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The find search box showing on the side. Have not figured out a way to close it without opening the popup then closing it.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Ultra Edit is a great product. I have been using it for about 10 years and have never had an issue. Over the years it has gotten better and better. The group at UE is constantly improving.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gives me the capability to just write code and save without all of the noise.
Keep all of my notes about servers, sites and apps in text files saved with the projects.
Love the Macros and Scripting tools. Saves tons of time.
I have the Ultra Compare and it has saved my butt many times.

 ### 37. Powerful and Versatile

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David B. | Vice-President of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit is the most versatile and cross functional editors I have ever seen!

It has more bells and whistles and offers more for the money than any other.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There are so many functions and capabilities that I don't ever need them all, but it's nice to know they are available.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I started using UltraEdit for it's ability to scrub and refomat text files using macros and easily view HEX files as well.

Made the project much faster.

 ### 38. Great full featured code editor and all-around text editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David P. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I have been using UltraEdit for years and they just keep making it better and better. As I have added different programming languages to my skillset, they have always supported them. This is a code editor, made by code editors.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There isn't anything I don't like. It is my go-to file editor. I can edit just about any type of file. Even hex!

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As I mentioned, this is my go-to code editor. I am a software developer and outside of a full-fledged IDE, this is what I use to write code.

 ### 39. Old school hack

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steve J. | Systems Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 25, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Opening up very large files, and searching in hex.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Software Abends and recovery. Organizing large number of open files.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Versatility in so many aspects... time saver from search and replace to nonprintable character ETL resolution.

 ### 40. My favourite text editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jim B. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It's so consistently easy to use. I've used UltraEdit for *so* many years (23+, I think), and it's still recognisable despite the ongoing improvements. IDM clearly listens to users and retains what works.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Not a thing. Occasionally, it doesn't suit me that it retains every note I leave myself in there, but that's on me!

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do all my text editing in UE when I can. The line and column numbers are so simple that I get deeply frustrated whenever I am forced to use Excel/Notepad as in one of the organisations at which I work.
It's fast to open, uses screen real estate effectively, and does everything I need.

 ### 41. Good text editor for windows

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arsalan K. | Technical Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Support for handling large size files

Available on Windows, Mac, Linux

Support for themes

Hex data editing, column selection, block mode selection editing is a pretty sweet add-ons for developers

Syntax highlighting

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Not free to use

Not very good with handling huge files, freezes a bit while loading them.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping us to open, view and navigate in production application log files.

The first go to tool for our team members during analysis

 ### 42. UE vs uex

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Utilities | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit is a small, fast and very handy editor. You don't have to start and park it in the background if there might be a possible demand on it. It handles the file formats good and is very helpful by opening even hex-files. Macro-recording is simple and helps to make multiple modifications very simple. Even Win and Linux are supported! Same syntax on both OS

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The response to necessary updates on LINUX is unaccaptable. Windows version is under contious updates but promisses for a new Linux version for Feb 21 are gone with the wind. Neither a new Linux version nor any announcements - bad. The edit-windows for Linux are handled completly different than in Win. Parallel scrolling in Linux is not implemented :-(.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use UE/uex for embedded source code, HTML and SVG/XML. Opposite to Eclipse UE(X) opens a file as a file and does not detect HTML and make any stupid / funny assumptions what I would like to do or how to restructure the source.

 ### 43. UltraEdit Business User Review

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Can set up system tasks to run automatically when set up correctly.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The learning process and onboarding are lengthy and complex. The user face can be daunting for a new user without any prior experience.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to run reoccurring jobs automatically for reporting and monitoring purposes.

 ### 44. Amazingly flexible software for coding and analysis of data files of unknown format and origin.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bart H. | Vice President of Geophysical Sales, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

The ability to flip between hex and ascii views to look at binary data files that usually have some ASCII strings hidden in them. Can handle really large files. The ability to do Python coding with all the handy formatting, hints, and code analysis available in Ultraedit to handle said data files is also great.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The interface can look a bit jarring, but it never changes from one version to the next by much so you always know where your command is.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Geophysical data analysis, Python coding

 ### 45. Excellent Software and support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tog P. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

This is easy to use and has so many features. The best for me is probably the find in files and find/replace in files features that save me so much time, although I do like the colour coding for different elements of a page. I am also pleased with the level of support. My questions are always answered quickly and answers received are always extremely clear.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I can't think of anything I dislike at all. Everything works so well.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I design websites so I use it for coding in HTML, PHP, CSS, and Javascript. It is so much more than a basic text editor. The find in files and find and replace in files features are especially useful to me.

 ### 46. UltraEdit meets all my needs, and more

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tim D. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

FTP to remote sites makes web editing easy. Find and Replace is a huge help when makng changes. I also like the ability to customise the appearance of UE on screen. for maximum visibility.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Nothing at all. UE has so many features, there's always one to hand

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

I wouldn't hesitate to install and use UltraEdit. You get 30 days to evaluate it free, by which time you'll be fully persuaded in favour.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use UE almost exclusively for web coding. It makes interaction between the local and remote files so quick and easy. By putting each web site into one (or more) projects it makes it so easy to switch between different aspects of one site, or between sites.

 ### 47. An excellent text editor!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan D. | Technical writer, Computer Hardware, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2018

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

As someone who has used UE for almost 20 years, I find the latest version to be the shining star of the UltraEdit family. In terms of features, stability and being a solid product, it can't be beat! The Tech Support is really good as well. If you are on the fence about getting a copy, or an open-source text editor product, spend the money and get UE. It will be well spent!

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

High upgrade pricing from one version to the next.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

It's a solid, supported, established product.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dealing with large files. This version deals with them well.

 ### 48. Great all around editor.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2017

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It's quick. Load quick, searches quick. I use other IDEs, but I've fallen back to this for years.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I did have to buy a separate copy of ulltra compare. But it is probably the best file compare tool I've used.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

This is a great editor that is great for everyday use.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been developing web applications for for years, with several different languages

 ### 49. Very trustworthy company

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I am not commenting on the rich of features, because I am very sure other people will do. I limit myself on user experience.

I have been an UltraEdit (and some other IDM products) user since at least 20 years. It is so long to remember exactly how many years. When UltraEdit (UE) started, online sale did not exist. It was sold via things called Shareware. Although I have retired quite long, I am still using UE. I still bought new version of UE for my new computer. My experience is truly so good, which I do not see at any other vendors. I have absolute confidence in IDM.

The user interface is so well organized. Although UE is so feature rich, it is easy to get familiar with. The support staff is excellent. I do not recall any time that I have to wait for more than a day to get a response. Usually, they answer within hours. Their staff is very polite and professional.

About quality? Before retiring, I was a tester for decades. So, my job was to find ways to break our own product before release. With that background (breaking product), I have never seen UE crash. Of course, I did not intentionally break UE, but I use as a user. For example, sometimes I load HUGE log files into UE to invest a problem. Through out decades of using UE, I see only minor problems.

Finally, I really recommend people to consider buying life-time upgrade. When I initially bought UE, that option did not exist. UltraCompare (UC) came much later after UE with that option. Since I had such positive experience with UE, I decided to buy life-time upgrade for UC. I paid once and I get all new features for close to 20 years for free. If the vendor is not trustful, I would not pay life-time upgrade. They may not exist in years!

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I cannot think of what I dislike, eventhough I have been a customer for so long.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I was at work, I used UE as part of my job as a tester. Paid from my own pocket!

 ### 50. Have used UE since 2004 for both personal and professional work.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Printing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2017

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I like and make extensive use of the Sort features plus the numerous coding templates for various computer languages.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Having to renew the license every year to get new features and upgrades.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Get the UltraStudio suite.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Use it to check various types of computer code; especially the reserve words.
