Our implementation was likely more involved than most, as we tested the tool with our community to ensure the translations were suitable. Working in the health information space meant there was a comprehensive due diligence process we needed to undertake to confirm the tool provided accurate translations.

The Recite Me team were on-hand to help integrate the Recite Me toolbar with our site, which was really valuable as a small team with no web development experience. The page summary provided by AI is slightly clunky and seems to pull through information through from the site code, not just the page text. E.g., the page summary for the Dogs for Good homepage includes an explanation for the acronym GTM - Google Tag Manager - which is something from the code and not something a visitor to our site would see/need an explanation for. We were able to provide a sitemap to target the important pages on our site and then iterate on the discovered issues. I was able to get in a nice rhythm with Claude Code, where I would provide it the CSV list of issues exported by Recite Me, we'd break them down, make changes, and then rescan. When Claude needed some more context, I was able to provide the additional info (explanation, suggested fixes) for a given issue that Recite Me gave us, and we were easily able to identify what actually needed changes based on the specific elements in question and what I was safe to mark as already good. Using the Recite Me portal is also straightforward, and support has also been great.. when we had issues running reports we were able to talk directly with our rep and she was able to run the report herself while we were waiting for a fix, which works splendidly now. The scanner isn't the fastest, but that could also be our plugin-heavy WordPress site. It would be nice if I could see the line go up noticeably in the scanner compliance chart, like if we started at 94% AA compliant and it took awhile to get up to 96% the line doesn't go up so much (could use more dopamine). I like that Recite Me covers a very wide range of accessibility issues, making key information accessible to all residents in North East London. It's quick and easy to use across all our web pages, which is a big plus. I also appreciate getting reports on usage, which help us track and analyze how the tool is used. The Recite Me guidebook and checker has helped make our website performance much more efficient by deleting unneeded scripts, and they’ve also improved accessibility for all users overall.

The checker has made it easier to spot small but critical UI issues that I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise, and it clearly shows where we’re falling short particularly with image labelling and heading structure.

The Recite Me team are great and quick to help whenever needed, and the onboarding process was simple and smooth, which made the whole experience even better. Integration is straightforward too, it’s simply a copy and paste job which is a code snippet that sits in our header scripts. When I’ve been testing it and showing colleagues how it works, the screen reader sometimes starts up because I’ve forgotten to turn it off. Then I can’t always remember how to disable it again, so I end up having to search around for the setting, which isn’t as smooth as it should be. There’s very little we dislike, but if we had to be critical, some of the more advanced tools can feel overwhelming for first-time users, and not all visitors immediately recognise what the Recite Me toolbar is or how it can help them. Like most accessibility tools, it also works best when paired with strong underlying content and design, so it’s not a substitute for building accessibility in from the start.
