GovtPermits: Free Online Permitting Software Reviews & Product Details

GovtPermits is a free online building permit management platform designed for city building departments, letting residents submit permit applications, pay fees, and track status entirely online instead of using paper forms or in-person counters. Residents create a self-service account where they can save drafts, monitor application status (submitted, under review, approved, or rejected), and pay any additional fees reviewers request, while all their applications tied to one email appear automatically without staff needing to link them manually. On the department side, staff work from a single review queue where they can filter applications by status, update statuses (which triggers automatic email notifications to applicants), request extra payments as projects progress, and customize branding and fees through account settings. The service is offered at no cost to departments, with no software licenses or per-seat pricing—cities simply decide whether to pass the flat application fee on to residents.
