The Google Apps Script is helpful for when you need to make spreadsheets that are more dynamic or automated - such as automatically sorting rows alphabetically every time you enter new data. For anyone that already knows SQL, it should be extremely easy to use. For those who aren't familiar with writing scripts, there are so many forums out there that are specific to Google Apps Script which make it really easy to get the kind of script you are looking for. There are just a couple things I've noticed that have made things difficult for me at times. First off, sometimes when there is an error in your script, it can be a little difficult to tell what has gone wrong - meaning the error information is very vague, but this is similar to using any scriptwriting app. Secondly, because Google is constantly making updates, sometimes when you find a script to use from an older forum it will no longer run the way it used to when the author made it. On the flip side, because they are making these updates a lot, many improvements end up being made where those scripts don't need to be as complicated as they used to be. Sometimes things that should be part of the core Apps Script functionality aren't and take a long time to be implemented. There are items that a lot of users have requested that Google takes a while to improve/implement. I love that it is free and open to anyone. It, obviously, integrates perfectly with Google Forms to do almost anything you'd like with the results. It is seamless and runs very quickly. It is an impressive way to power-up your forms and create personalized or custom resources.

Google Script is a bit different than Javascript. Not all functionalities are recognized, and the format of responses sometimes make setting up arrays or using certain functions tricky. I had to do a lot of editing and researching to convert my "normal" code to work in Google. Even a more experienced coder had a hard time understanding the structure of the objects and other items. The one thing I like the best about Google Apps Script is the ability to automate within the Google Apps ecosystem. You can easily populate Slides presentations with Sheets data, subscribe emails to MailChimp, and even parse text from PDFs! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I've used this to build out a request database with forms, sheets, and Slack. Since I'm new to this space I was able to get this working by looking through the API documentation with ease. I think Google Apps Script is one of the most underrated G-Suite products. It allows the user to add custom scripts into Google Slides or Google Docs and helps embed cross-functionality tools and 3rd part apps into the G-Suite app that you're currently using. The major prerequisite is Javascript which one has to know the basics of to be able to write down custom scripts.
