"Gemini Code Assist Feels Like an Extension of My Brain"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Gemini Code Assist?

The thing that really like about Gemini Code Assist is that it is feels well informed about my codebase. It is good at guessing what I am trying to accomplish in projects. It can generate full functions from comments and has helped me understand a new codebase and document code.

I also like that it has a massive context window and this really makes it suitable for long coding sessions. It integrates very well with VS Code and provides clear inline code completions which are very well integrated with the user interface.

The setup and onboarding process is quick and simple, I did not encounter any problems with it Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gemini Code Assist?

What really bothers me the most is that despite it's larger context window. the performance degrades significantly after just a few uses, even before 80% of the context window is used. It does not support multi-file editing and sometimes the code suggestions can feel too generic especially for complex tasks and is prone to hallucinations.

I feel the pricing options could also be improved. The price for premium features is steep compared to what other tools offer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Decent for Flow State, Mid for Actual Coding"
3/5
What do you like best about Gemini Code Assist?

Honestly, as a general LLM for brainstorming, breaking down complex cloud concepts, or figuring out how to structure data pipelines, it's genuinely good. The coding itself can definitely be a hit or miss compared to other tools sometimes the logic or syntax needs a heavy edit but for setting up boilerplate and staying in your zone inside the editor, it gets the job done Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gemini Code Assist?

it can definitely hallucinate code, especially with newer API updates or less common libraries. It's not uncommon for it to confidently write deprecated syntax or slightly miss the logic, meaning you have to spend extra time babysitting the output and correcting its mistakes rather than just cruising through your workflow Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fits Naturally in the IDE and Speeds Up Backend Development"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Gemini Code Assist?

What I like most about Gemini Code Assist is how naturally it fits into my day-to-day development workflow inside the IDE. I mainly use it when working on backend services and integrations, and it’s been pretty solid at suggesting code that actually matches the context of what I’m building. It speeds up the repetitive parts, like writing API handlers or setting up data mappings, which ends up saving me time.

I also lean on it to quickly make sense of unfamiliar code blocks, especially when I’m dealing with larger codebases. Not going to lie, it doesn’t get everything right every single time, but overall it cuts down a lot of friction during development. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gemini Code Assist?

One thing I don't really like is that the suggestions can sometimes sound very confident even when the implementation isn't fully correct, so you still have to properly review the generated code before using it. It works best an assistant rather than something you can fully rely on blindly.

I've also noticed that for very project-specific logic or larger multi-file flows the context handling can be a bit inconsistent at time but if our code is properly refactored and have proper context md files it does not happen very often. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fast Development Support but Needs Better Accuracy for Complex Tasks"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Gemini Code Assist?

Gemini Code Assist is useful for quick development support. I mainly work on React, backend integration, and building dynamic pages, and it helps me generate code faster and understand concepts when I get stuck. It is easy to use and helps in creating UI components, fixing small errors, and giving ideas for implementation. For beginners and fast development, it saves time instead of searching everywhere. What do you dislike about Gemini Code Assist?

What do you dislike about Gemini Code Assist?

For real-time projects, sometimes the code suggestions are not fully accurate or production-ready. I often need to modify the code to match my requirements. It also struggles with complex backend logic, integrations (like APIs, databases, payments), and understanding exact project needs. Responses can feel generic sometimes, and more precise, practical solutions would make it much better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Gemini Code Assist: Huge Context Window That Feels Like a True Coding Partner"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Gemini Code Assist?

Honestly, what I love most is that it actually gets out of your way. Most assistants feel like a chatty intern you have to constantly manage, but Gemini feels like a partner who’s already read the whole room.

The 2-million token window is the real MVP. I can point it at an entire massive monorepo and it just knows—no more "copy-pasting" context. It catches those "butterfly effect" bugs where a change in your API breaks a random helper five folders away. It’s less about autocomplete and more about having a teammate who’s memorized the entire codebase. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gemini Code Assist?

What really grinds my gears is the "Confident Hallucination." Sometimes, instead of just saying "I don't know," it’ll invent an API or a library method that looks 100% real but doesn't actually exist. It’s like a teammate who’s too embarrassed to admit they’re lost.

Also, it can get "context-blind" in messy code. If your project isn't perfectly structured, it occasionally loses the plot and suggests repetitive variables or logic that conflicts with what’s five lines up. It's brilliant, but you definitely can't take your hands off the wheel. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Debugging, Needs a Dedicated Mac App"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Gemini Code Assist?

I use Gemini Code Assist to aid in coding tasks, particularly for diagnosing and debugging errors, which helps me find issues with code efficiently. It solves the issue of trailing through lots of lines of code. I really like the UI and the speed; it integrates well with my online coding environment and understands the languages we use. The models are powerful, allowing me to provide considerable pockets of code, and they handle lots of TypeScript or Python code well. I can give it ample samples for debugging, and it finds errors quickly. I also appreciate the ideation elements that provide solutions. The initial setup was very easy. What do you dislike about Gemini Code Assist?

It needs a better dedicated Mac app. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Speeds Up Coding and Makes Development Fun"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Gemini Code Assist?

What I love most about Gemini Code Assist is how much it speeds up my workflow. It simplifies coding and lets me easily build clean code and resolve issues easily without relying on searching for other solutions. I particularly like the idea of how it puts forward suggestions in a straightforward manner, along with options for multiple paths as I explore potential answers. It is also fantastic for catching errors early and helping me experiment quickly. In an aggregate, it makes coding easier, less laborious, and a ton more fun. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gemini Code Assist?

The thing I hate about Gemini Code Assist is I think the suggestions are sometimes too generic for more complicated or project-specific code as well. Over explanation and under explanation of simple things sometimes; on the other hand, advanced logic it does not do much to show the reader in depth. Also, sometimes it produces code that needs further cleaning and doesn’t fully match my model of code. It’s good overall, but I still have to double-check everything - the extra work makes it extra laborious. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
