The library is still a mess. When adding a component, there is no indication of the library path, or what library is being used. The poor library and difficulty of managing and creating parts is a huge productivity killer. A two job becomes a full day job just chasing parts (that were created in earlier versions). The group move function used be great a long time ago. Now one selects a group, types in MOVE and still gets a menu with all kinds of choices that have nothing to do with moving. Moving parts around is one of the most often used function and it should be simpler. Placing a via in the old version used to be simple (hold SHIFT), I still can not figure it in 9.2.2. The user base is sufficiently large that whatever I want to do, someone has already done it and posted suggestions, tutorials, and how-tos. The same goes for libraries - although I tell people that Eagle is a great layout tool with the worst possible search tool to find them! Recent improvements that make layout more intuitive are very much appreciated, but overall ease-of-use still beats the alternatives I've tried hands-down. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Search, obviously. While grouping objects has been made easier it still is a pain and not at all intuitive. Why Eagle designers chose to jumble up all the icons is a mystery and continued source of frustration - for no reason. Either give the user the ability to arrange tools as desired - ore leave them the hell alone! I also don't understand why I am given a Log In window everytime, and why some of my projects still are titled "Free" even though I purchased a license. The need to have multiple Control Panel windows open in order to copy and paste between designs is a hassle. But the biggest dislike is: NO AUTOSAVE. I can't tell you how many times Microsoft in it's wisdom decided that Windows needed to close all my windows and restart causing my latest changes to be lost. I know about what's there but it is insufficient in this day and age, and it should not rely on the user to remember when to save a backup copy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that it works on MacOS and the interoperability with Fushion 360 is really great. It is also clear that Autodesk is working hard to make meaningful improvements over time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

BOM management is the biggest lacking feature. A lot of time is spent managing part numbers and the tools need to be improved to make this more efficient. Less import but nice to have would be an overhaul of the rendering engine for schematics. The current rendering of schematics makes it look and feel outdated. The user interface can be quite good, with assignable keystrokes, and quick operation. And in nearly 20 years I'm pretty sure I've never crashed Eagle. I've used several other CAD programs and all the others crash occasionally. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Here are a few complaints:

- The frequent message “Updates are available for managed libraries in your design. Open Managed Libraries to Update” is very annoying; I see that many times every day and it’s a waste of screen space. Can I turn it off?

- Too many libraries are displayed. Normally I only want to see the ones I chose to use in the design. I prefer to work with fewer libraries and generic parts (specified with value and package) where possible. When I want to add a library, that would be the time to see them all. But when I add a part, it seems to show every library it can find.

- Library search does not display the terms found with the results. Is it searching library names, component names, or various text within all the components?

- Parts are often dropped off grid when moving or copying (this did not happen with older versions), and with rotated blocks. Is there a way to fix this? Probably the best that can be done with rotated blocks is to always rotate around a grid point. But for moving or copying anything, why not always snap it on grid? Especially for schematics, where components and wires are kept on grid.

- When moving a group, the starting location is always lost, as the lifted group jumps to the current cursor location. This is quite annoying – instead, the cursor should jump to the group’s location without moving the group (yet).

- When moving a component or group, it should be possible to nudge it with mouse/arrow keys. Also it should be possible to type in a relative distance to move.

- When schematic connections are drawn, they should always connect on grid. Sometimes they land on a fraction of the grid, very close to a component pin but not on it. This causes errors.

- Is there a way to move a part in the schematic without connections, i.e. disconnect it and allow new connections to be made at a different location? In Eagle, I’ve always had to delete the connection lines before moving a component that needs different connections.

- Often when a component is placed on wire ends, the connections are not made. The component needs to be attached (as though you were going to move it), and then dropped a second time at the same location. Then the connections are made.

- Most of the commands where you set something (layer, width, size, etc.) require you to reselect the value when you repeat the command. It should remember the previous value and use that if you don't change it, and save that step.

- There should be a single keystroke (and command) to repeat any previous command and value setting. This applies to commands that terminate such as “change” (commands that stay in a mode like move, name, etc. are fine).

The improved UI and stability since Autodesk took control of the development cycle have been very appreciated. Crashes are very rare, and data integrity is very much improved - I've only had a couple of occasions where the board and schematic unexpectedly lost synch, and the recovery was far easier.

I further appreciate that Eagle now looks to a single folder for libraries and other relevant files from one release to the next. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

1) I found the changes to the UI disconcerting, and still find myself looking at all the changed icons and their new placement to find functions I used to know without any hesitation. With time this will resolve.

2) I wouldn't mind a less aggressive update/release schedule. It almost feels like every time I start a project, or want to update a project, I have a new version waiting for download and installation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like how easy it was to pick it up. A couple tutorials on YouTube and I was building my first board. The rest of learning has been very organic, "I need to do X" "Google how to do X" and one by one my toolbox is growing a bit. Really love Eagle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

My main problem with eagle is graphics support. I wish it were easy to import graphics onto a silkscreen layer, or import custom shapes from a graphics program. It's possible, but I feel like I'm using more of a "work around" than a feature. I wish it was a feature.

Also, smaller issue. If I make a GROUND plane on my board and that ground plane gets severed during an auto-route, EAGLE doesn't make it very clear that the two parts of the GROUND plane are no longer connected, which has lead to some bad boards for me. It should be an option to include this in the Auto-Route and have EAGLE make the necessary vias to complete the connections. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

File reverse compatibility is mostly really good. (there have been a couple minor issues)

It mostly works pretty well other than a spate of recent bugs.

It really is fast to route boards once you get over the learning hump.

The recent change that affects render order is almost a deal breaker. Our main router is on a version just before this to avoid it until something is done about it.

There were multiple bugs that broke the move command that ended up causing us to mismanufacture boards for 3 products. Though we have changed our pipeline to catch future errors like this it was very frustrating to find board destroying bugs in one of the most basic commands.

Library management is a pain. Though some work has been done on this front none of the new features are actually usable or useful.

Design blocks are also a joke. Full of bugs and a workflow that is more klutzy than just keeping a sheet of schematics to copy and paste from and just rerouting the blocks.

So in general, I like the ideas of some of the newer features but think they are often half baked both in design and implementation before they get pushed to the users to "test". Given we push new prototypes out weekly these buggy versions have caused us a lot of headaches and straight up lost money. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We invested a lot of money in the «Professional» version of Eagle only to eventually have to bite the bullet and buy Altium anyway.

There are so many issues with this program that I don't know where to start. Sharing work between two different engineers was a nightmare. Getting used to the Eagle way then having to switch and reset to a new / usable program was also a nightmare, but literally everything is a little harder with Eagle, and if you're quoting PCBA for any volume at all, you're setting yourself up for failure or at least a much bigger pain in the ass than necessary using Eagle. The subscription pricing model is fine for games, terrible for professional software. Would rather buy a new version periodically as necessary. The newer versions of Eagle are missing some of the manual route wire bend options, which make manual routing more difficult. I find the interface icons harder to read than the old version of Eagle. Long story short I still use and prefer Eagle 7.7 over my latest Autocad version, but I see backwards compatibility is becoming a bigger issue all the time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Honestly, every one of my old peeves has been addressed. This program just gets better every week. Initially I was annoyed when they changed to a subscription model, but they changed my mind as soon as they started fixing the stuff everybody used to complain about.
