# Which MEP software platforms best enable real-time coordination between electrical and mechanical disciplines in the same model?

<p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">Hey MEP reviewers and BIM coordinators, this needs your scars. I want to know which MEP software platforms actually enable real-time coordination between electrical and mechanical disciplines in the same model, because in the<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/mep"> </a><a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/mep">MEP</a> category, "coordination" gets claimed a lot and delivered less.</p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">The tension is old: electrical and mechanical fight for the same ceiling space, and most coordination still happens at weekly clash meetings after the damage is done. Same-model, real-time work is the fix everyone wants. Three names come up:</p><ul>

<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/revit-mep/reviews"><strong>Revit MEP</strong></a> is the honest default answer. One shared model, all disciplines in it, clashes visible as they happen rather than at review. Reviewers rate it the strongest tool in this category, and this is exactly why. The cost: everyone has to actually work in Revit, and that retraining is real.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/magicad/reviews"><strong>MagiCAD</strong></a> layers discipline tools for ventilation, piping, and electrical on top of Revit, AutoCAD, and BricsCAD, with calculations built in. On paper, ideal for mixed-platform teams. Worth saying plainly: reviewers here are much cooler on it than the pitch suggests, and I would like to hear why from actual users.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/autocad-mep/reviews"><strong>AutoCAD MEP</strong></a> coordinates the older way, through xrefs and overlays. Solid, familiar, but not really real-time or same-model. I include it because plenty of teams still make it work.</li>

&lt;p&gt;The distinction between clash discovery and clash resolution feels key here. I’d measure how long a newly introduced conflict takes to become visible to the other discipline, then how long it takes to get an owner and an agreed resolution. Same-model coordination can compress the first number dramatically while the second still depends on team conventions and who has authority over shared space.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Same-model coordination helps a lot, but it doesn’t eliminate clash meetings entirely. Revit is probably the closest to real-time coordination, while tools like MagiCAD add discipline depth; the bigger challenge is getting every team to model consistently enough for the shared model to stay trustworthy.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Answering the question where it cut off: no, same-model coordination hasn&#39;t killed the weekly clash meeting, but it changed what the meeting is for. The clashes get found Tuesday morning in the model instead of Friday in review, so the meeting stops being discovery and becomes arbitration, deciding who moves when both trades want the same foot of ceiling. That&#39;s the honest win. Software finds the conflict, it still can&#39;t rule on who owns the space.&lt;/p&gt;
