&lt;p&gt;I’d test the exception path rather than the standard award flow. A mid-year aid revision that changes federal aid, an institutional scholarship, and the student balance at once should show whether these really operate as one system. If staff still reconcile the award across modules before the student sees the right number, the integration is mostly architectural rather than operational.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;One thing worth testing from the student side as well as the office side: what a student sees when an award changes mid-term. Aid revisions are common and confusing, and a portal showing a new number with no explanation generates exactly the calls the system was meant to reduce. Worth putting that specific screen in the demo.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;From conversations with financial aid offices, the split is consistent: federal processing stays in-suite fine, and the bolt-on temptation shows up with institutional scholarships, the ones with donor criteria like a left-handed junior from a specific county. Configuration effort scales with your exception count, not your award count. If your award rules fit in tables, any of these four will hold; if they live in a coordinator&#39;s head, budget for that translation first.&lt;/p&gt;
