# What should you restate when ChatGPT doesn't carry earlier context into a conversation you return to later?

Been reading on what people restate when ChatGPT doesn't carry earlier context into a conversation they return to after a day or more away. The habits that work, going by G2 reviews, are restating the key context at the top of the new message, and keeping related work organised in project folders so the material sits together rather than in one long thread. Missing or unclear context is also the condition people link to answers that drift from what was set up earlier.

Memory is one of the things people like most about it: remembering previous conversations and adapting tone and responses to the person, so prompts need less setting up over time. For large language models used on ongoing work, that makes it a good fit for continuing a piece across several sessions, as long as the start of each session is treated as a short handover.

A two-line recap at the top seems to do most of the work.

If you work on one piece across several days, do you restart with a summary or pick up the old thread? And has memory changed how much you restate?

A two-line recap at the top of the message works for me every time. Paired with project folders, picking a piece back up after a few days feels easy.
