Based on my understanding, for a mid-sized manufacturer, the supplement-versus-replacement question you raise almost always lands on supplement, at least early on. AR tends to prove itself first on the specific tasks that are hardest to schedule an expert for, complex assembly, rare-fault troubleshooting, and high-turnover stations, rather than replacing a whole training program at once. The buy-in friction on one of your tool surfaces is real, too: floor interest rarely translates to budget approval unless someone can tie it to a concrete cost like reduced downtime or fewer scrapped parts, so the strongest case is usually a narrow, high-value workflow rather than a broad rollout.
