&lt;p&gt;Electrical engineers I&#39;ve heard from on this are fairly unanimous that the linked-calculation approach is the speed, so Design Master style tools win the permit race: change a breaker, and the panel schedule, one-line, and load calcs move together instead of becoming three separate edits. Where the spreadsheet sneaks back in is at the edges of the project, utility coordination, service sizing negotiations, and the short-circuit study when it&#39;s handed to an outside firm. Inside the drawing set, the spreadsheet is optional now. Outside it, not yet.&lt;/p&gt;
