# What makes a Miro board less responsive: images, frame count or the number of collaborators?

Real-time collaboration on an infinite canvas is the core of Miro, so I've been digging into what makes a heavy board less responsive: images, frame count or the number of people editing. What comes up on G2 is that responsiveness changes on boards with many high-resolution images, hundreds of frames or dense sticky-note areas, especially when several people edit at once. The practical answer people give is keeping image-heavy material and very large diagrams in their own clearly separated sections or boards.

Across visual collaboration tools, the deciding factor seems to be what a board is for. A working board for a live session suits Miro's real-time editing, templates for process maps and brainstorms, and AI tools that organise content as it arrives. An archive that holds every image and diagram a project ever produced is a different job, and splitting that out keeps the working board quick for the people on it.

What I'd like to hear from anyone running large boards:

Were images and embeds the main factor, or sheer object count?

Does tidying an old board help, or is a fresh board the better reset?

Do you keep reference material on a separate board?

How do you prepare a board before a large live workshop so it stays responsive with everyone on it?

Does anyone keep a separate reference board for images and link to it from the working board? Thinking of trying that for our next big session.
