# What are the top marketplace platforms for launching a multi-vendor marketplace without a big technical lift?

I've been comparing options in the marketplace software category because everyone assumes launching a marketplace means hiring a dev team first, and that's not really true anymore. Most comparisons out there are written for engineers, not for someone who just wants vendors onboarded and orders flowing.

A few names keep coming up, depending on what "launch" means for you:

Sharetribe: no-code builder, live in a day, add custom code later once you need it.

CS-Cart Multi-Vendor: 500+ features built in, though advanced setups like commission rules or multi-storefront take some patience.

Rokt Catalog (formerly Canal): built for plugging into a brand network, not building a marketplace from scratch. Shopify or WooCommerce hookup takes under an hour.

Mirakl Connect: fast setup for getting your catalog onto other marketplaces, though category mapping gets messy when a marketplace changes its taxonomy.

So it really comes down to whether you're building your own storefront that vendors sell through, or plugging your products into other marketplaces and brand networks. Those are pretty different problems even though they get lumped into the same category.

For anyone who's launched one of these: how much custom development did you end up needing after the initial setup, and did the platform you picked hold up once you scaled past your first few vendors?

<p>I think the technical lift after launch matters just as much as getting the first version live. Vendor onboarding may be simple initially, but commissions, payouts, catalog rules, and exceptions are usually where complexity starts creeping back in. Has anyone launched with one of these and found that non-technical teams could still manage those workflows once the marketplace grew?</p>
