&lt;p&gt;One thing that goes missing between the optimizer&#39;s savings estimate and the fuel bill: drivers. The tightest route on paper saves nothing if it gets overridden in practice, for reasons the software can&#39;t see, like a dock that won&#39;t take deliveries before ten. So the number worth sharing here isn&#39;t the optimizer&#39;s projection but planned-versus-actual adherence, because that gap is usually where the promised savings went.&lt;/p&gt;
