# What are the best IP geolocation APIs for fraud detection and access control in SaaS applications?

Honest heads-up first: G2 doesn't have a clean dedicated category for IP geolocation APIs, so I can't rank these from G2 reviews the way I would a normal category, I'll flag that I'm going on established positioning here. The well-known providers for this use case are MaxMind (its GeoIP data is a longtime standard for fraud scoring), IPinfo and IP2Location for accurate geolocation and IP metadata, and providers like ipdata or ipregistry that bundle proxy, VPN and threat detection alongside location. For fraud detection and access control specifically, the feature that matters most isn't just city-level location, it's the anonymizer, proxy, VPN and hosting detection, since fraudsters mask their real location. So I'd evaluate on accuracy plus that risk-signal layer, and test each against known-bad IPs. Are you using this mostly to geo-fence access, or to feed a fraud-scoring model? That changes which provider's data matters more.
