# Is ProfitWell Metrics by Paddle worth it as a payment analytics platform for a SaaS company that needs subscription payment analytics, or does Paddle's own analytics cover the same ground?

Question for the payment analytics reviewers and researchers, especially anyone who's evaluated tools from the Paddle ecosystem. ProfitWell Metrics is fully free, and Paddle's reporting comes bundled with its billing. So "worth it" here isn't a budget question, it's a which-screen-do-you-actually-trust question.

Where each pulls ahead:

ProfitWell Metrics is the analytics layer on top: MRR, churn, LTV, cohort and segment analysis, plus benchmarking against other subscription companies. And it also reads from Stripe, Braintree, Chargebee, Recurly, and Zuora, not just paddle.

For anyone who's run both: does the ProfitWell layer surface things the Paddle dashboard genuinely misses, or does it mostly duplicate a screen you already had open? And is there a third tool that quietly does this job better than either?

Having compared the two views, the ProfitWell layer earns its place through cohorts and benchmarking, which the billing dashboard doesn't try to do. Where it duplicates is the day-to-day revenue numbers. So the real question is whether anyone on your team will act on cohort retention and benchmark data. If yes, run both, since the layer is free. If nobody would open those views, the Paddle dashboard alone is honest enough.
