For a startup, the real question behind this one is whether a dedicated platform earns its cost and setup time versus stitching together point tools. These four Cloud Edge Security picks favor low overhead, approachable pricing, and fast rollout.

Cato SASE Cloud (4.5 stars, 83 reviews) is described by reviewers as quick to deploy and simple to run day to day, consolidating networking and security so a small team is not managing several vendors. Reviewers note bandwidth-tier licensing can get costly, which is worth modeling before committing at startup scale.

Todyl Security Platform (4.7 stars, 106 reviews) often comes up for lean teams, with reviewers repeatedly praising its price point and a single agent that bundles SASE, endpoint, SIEM, and 24/7 managed detection capabilities. Reviewers would like better agent-health monitoring across environments.

Twingate (4.7 stars, 76 reviews) is a natural starting point for a startup that mainly needs secure access, since reviewers describe software-only deployment in minutes, easy user self-enrollment, and least-privilege access without new hardware. Reviewers flag thinner advanced logging.

Cloudflare One (SASE) (4.6 stars, 105 reviews) is accessible for early teams thanks to a usable free tier and zero-trust access, DNS filtering, and threat protection in one place. Reviewers note that the dashboard takes some learning at first.

And at what headcount did a dedicated edge platform start to feel worth it for you?

What strikes me is that even the four platforms picked specifically for being startup-friendly still carry a hidden growth tax somewhere. Cato's bandwidth-tier licensing is called out as something to model early, not after signing. Todyl and Cloudflare One lean on price and a free tier to stay approachable, but neither of those advantages is guaranteed to hold once usage climbs past whatever tier unlocked the low price in the first place.

I'd want to see the actual pricing cliff in each of these, the specific usage or seat count where the invoice jumps, rather than just headcount, since that's usually a harder trigger than team size alone.
