# How do HubSpot Marketing Hub teams build workflow logic the standard filters don't cover?

Building workflows in HubSpot Marketing Hub is largely visual, with if/then branches that send contacts down different email paths without code, so what I'm researching is how teams handle workflow logic the standard filters don't cover. The workaround that comes up in G2 reviews is a contact property used as a flag: one workflow sets the property, and other workflows filter on it, which covers cases like stopping a contact from answering the same survey twice.

The other situations people mention are controlling which team members can build or change certain workflows, and keeping duplicate contacts and companies out of enrolment. Both sit on a builder that marketing automation teams credit with routing leads well, so the extra configuration tends to arrive once a setup has grown past its first design.

For anyone running a property-flag setup, how do you keep track of which flag means what? And who on your team owns that naming?
