# Accenture vs IBM Consulting: which Adobe consulting partner provides better strategic guidance during marketing automation rollouts?

We've been comparing Adobe consulting services options for marketing automation rollouts, and the Accenture vs IBM Consulting question keeps surfacing when the buyer is coming from an enterprise-first lens. Both have Adobe practices at scale. The relevant question isn't which firm has broader capability overall. It's which one provides better strategic guidance, specifically during the rollout phase, when decisions are harder to reverse than the technical configuration?

Accenture: Reviewers describe structured delivery frameworks with clear governance and measurable outcomes across complex implementations. Strategic guidance is consistently strong at the planning stage and more prescribed during execution. The trade-offs cited are reduced mid-project flexibility and premium pricing, with several reviewers noting that junior staff are added to engagements in ways that affect cost without proportional expertise. Works best when the scope is stable at kick-off.

IBM Consulting: Reviewers credit IBM for thorough discovery, with one noting a deep-dive process that identified all factors impacting business results before a direction was proposed. The limitation that surfaces consistently is pace: each phase requires significant time and stakeholder involvement. One reviewer also flags that IBM tends to steer toward its own technology stack even when the client has expressed a different preference, creating friction during rollout phases when platform decisions matter.

The pattern that separates the two: Accenture reviewers describe receiving structured recommendations within a defined governance model, while IBM reviewers describe strong discovery, slower execution, and some tension around technology neutrality. For rollouts where the platform is already locked, and execution sequencing is the strategic need, Accenture's framework appears more consistently cited. For rollouts where the architecture is still being defined, IBM's discovery depth is the more relevant differentiator. Which of these two have you worked with on an Adobe marketing automation rollout, and where did the strategic guidance actually hold up?

Between two GSIs this size, the firm-level comparison is close to a wash, because the variance that decides your outcome is which practice, pod, and partner you land, not the logo on the contract. Both are federations of teams of very different quality, and the thread's own note that junior staff get added is the mechanism: the senior strategy you compared in the pitch usually isn't the leveraged team that delivers your rollout. So "Accenture or IBM" is less useful than vetting the specific people assigned and confirming the strategist stays past the pitch. For anyone who's used either on a rollout: how close was the team that actually delivered to the one in the sales meeting?
