Proxy Network Software Discussions
Pool size is the easiest number for a proxy vendor to advertise, and often the least useful one once you're actually running requests against a real target.
What are the best proxy network providers for teams that need reliable success rates rather than the largest IP pool, judged on what actually gets through rather than how many IPs are technically available.
A few on G2's proxy networks list lead specifically with that metric:
- Decodo (formerly Smartproxy) (4.6/5, 670+ reviews): publishes a specific success rate figure rather than leading with pool size, with fast response times cited by reviewers.
- NetNut.io (4.9/5, 385+ reviews): reviewers specifically praise its proxy speed and reliability over raw scale, and it holds the highest rating among named competitors here.
- IPRoyal (4.7/5, 625+ reviews): reviewers consistently cite stable proxy quality and ease of setup rather than pool size as the reason they stick with it.
For anyone who's compared providers head to head: did a bigger pool ever actually translate into a better success rate, or was that mostly marketing?
From what I've heard, a bigger pool mostly helps with avoiding rate limits and rotating fast enough to not get flagged, but it doesn't do much for success rate on its own if a large share of those IPs are already burned or poorly maintained. The providers here leaning on success rate as the headline number seem to be making the more honest claim, since a smaller, well-maintained pool of clean IPs tends to outperform a huge one padded with proxies that keep getting blocked.
I found IPRoyal reasonably priced, with excellent agent quality and a low delay rate, which made it friendly for web crawling, data collection, and test development. The main thing I still want is more discount codes. For others using it in similar workflows, what performance or reliability factors matter most to you, and have you found any ways to keep costs down?
