Question on: DbVisualizer
How does DbVisualizer connect to database? How does DbVisualizer connect to database?
DbVisualizer uses a JDBC driver to connect to the database.
Every DBMS vendor offers JDBC connectivity and offers a JDBC driver you can freely download. DbVisualizer bundles some of the most common JDBC drivers. In addition, DbVisualizer can use any JDBC driver that you download.
You can have multiple connection definitions to the same database each using a different version of a JDBC driver. This is useful for migration projects where you might want to diagnose issues between database versions and JDBC drivers versions.
Most JDBC drivers are designed to work with multiple versions of the DBMS. For instance, the latest Postgres JDBC driver works with PostgreSQL 15.x as well as PostgreSQL versions as far back as 9.x, or possibly even older.
