I also appreciate the straightforward employee-directory feature for our restaurant team. During peak dinner service, I can quickly look up contact information and active status for front-of-house and kitchen staff without digging through separate spreadsheets, which makes filling unexpected last-minute shift gaps easier when someone calls out sick. ZenHR falls short on flexible reporting and native payroll customization for our restaurant-specific workflows. We can't easily generate segmented reports separating front-of-house versus kitchen staff hours, and it lacks built-in support for restaurant-related shift premium rules. When crew members work split or overtime weekend shifts, manual adjustments are often required. Since we have no dedicated IT staff, I cannot set up custom automations and end up exporting raw timesheet data and reworking it manually, which adds stress during our busy weekend dinner service windows. Additionally, reporting templates are fairly basic, so I still export and manually re-arrange data to build custom staffing summaries. Also, the cleaning up of inconsistent legacy staff data took considerable manual work, and since we have no dedicated IT staff, I have to handle all data mapping and user training on my own, adding extra pressure.
