"Vyond’s Scene Builder Helped Us Expand from Still Photos to Polished Motion Assets"
5/5
What do you like best about Vyond?

As Studio Operations & Client Relations Manager at Apex Commercial Photo Studio, I manage commercial photography client partnerships, photoshoot scheduling, freelance vendor coordination, and SaaS tool evaluation for our US-based commercial photo studio. Our lean 11–50-person team has no dedicated in-house IT staff, and Vyond’s robust character animation and scene builder is the standout tool that has expanded our service offering beyond static photography assets for brand clients.

Vyond’s drag-and-drop timeline and asset library saves me roughly six hours each week when creating short animated marketing supplements for our photography clients. Before adopting Vyond, our clients who wanted motion assets alongside their brand photos had to contract separate animation agencies, which created longer lead times, extra vendor management overhead, and inconsistent brand styling between still images and animated clips. Now our team can build custom animated explainer snippets, social media teasers, and website banner animations that match the color palette and brand tone of our photo deliverables. For a recent retail apparel client’s seasonal campaign, we shot commercial product photography and paired those images with a 45-second Vyond animation highlighting their new store opening. I imported our studio’s final product photos directly into Vyond’s scene canvas, added custom character movements and text callouts, and exported multiple aspect ratios for Instagram, website hero sections, and email marketing. This eliminated the need to onboard a third-party animator and kept all brand asset work within our project timeline.

I also rely heavily on Vyond’s reusable template library and asset locking features to maintain consistent brand guidelines across client projects. Once I build a base scene template for a brand, I can duplicate the project, swap out imagery, adjust copy, and retain the brand’s font, color scheme, and animation style. Our freelance retouchers can drop edited photography assets straight into these templates without learning complex animation software. When we supported a local restaurant’s rebrand campaign, we reused a previously built Vyond template for food service clients, swapped in our new food photography, and generated three distinct animated social clips in half the time required for a fully custom build. The platform’s version history also lets us roll back edits if a client requests a style change, removing the risk of permanently overwriting project files.

An unexpected benefit I’ve discovered is using Vyond to create internal training animations for our freelance photographers and retouchers. Instead of writing lengthy text briefs or hosting long video calls to walk through studio workflows and client brand requirements, I build short animated clips showing shoot setup protocols, asset naming conventions, and client feedback processes. These concise animated guides cut down repeated onboarding questions from new freelance vendors and keep our project handoffs streamlined during busy shoot seasons.

For our lean commercial photography team without dedicated IT or animation specialists, Vyond bridges the gap between static photo deliverables and motion content. It lets us add animated assets to client packages without hiring full-time animators, cuts external vendor coordination work, and maintains consistent brand styling across still and moving creative assets. This expanded service capability helps us meet tight client production deadlines and create more value for our commercial brand clients. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vyond?

As Studio Operations & Client Relations Manager at Apex Commercial Photo Studio, I oversee commercial photography client partnerships, photoshoot scheduling, freelance vendor coordination, and SaaS tool evaluation for our US photo studio. Our lean 11–50-person team has no dedicated IT staff, and even though Vyond lets us build short animated add-ons for our brand clients, its poor handling of high-resolution photography assets, limited native audio editing, and expensive credit-based export system create consistent bottlenecks during tight production deadlines.

The biggest frustration is Vyond’s compression algorithm that degrades our high-res commercial photos after upload. Our studio delivers large, sharp product images shot for retail and food brands, and when importing these files into Vyond, the platform automatically downsamples the imagery, softening fine textures, color gradients, and product details. When we built a promotional animation for a luxury skincare client, I imported our retouched product photos directly into the scene, only to discover the exported video washed out subtle packaging textures and muted the brand’s carefully calibrated color palette. I spent nearly six hours exporting scaled-down copies of every photograph, testing different resolution presets, and re-uploading assets repeatedly to reduce compression artifacts. Even with manual pre-processing, the final animation still required extra color correction work in separate video software, adding unexpected steps to our asset delivery workflow.

Vyond’s built-in audio editing controls are also extremely limited, forcing us to rely on external software for voiceover and sound design. Inside the platform, users can only trim audio clips and adjust global volume levels; there are no tools to reduce background noise, layer multiple sound effects, or fine-tune audio fades at precise timestamps. For a recent restaurant campaign animation, our client requested custom voiceover paired with subtle ambient dining sounds. I had to record, edit, and mix all audio in an external audio editor before importing the finished track into Vyond. Every small edit requested by the client meant reworking the audio file outside Vyond and re-uploading it, which added multiple rounds of revisions and delayed our final handoff date.

On top of that, Vyond uses a credit system for video exports, and every download consumes credits regardless of whether the file is a test draft or final client deliverable. Our small studio frequently creates multiple draft versions for client review, and repeated exports eat through our monthly credit allocation quickly. During a busy holiday campaign season, we burned through our credit allowance halfway through the month just sending draft animation previews to two retail clients, forcing us to purchase extra credits to generate the final approved files. This unpredictable cost structure makes project budgeting harder for our studio, where we quote fixed pricing for bundled photo and motion packages.

An unexpected pain point we found is the lack of robust version control for larger multi-scene projects. When multiple team members access the same Vyond project, there is no granular lock function for individual scenes. On one project, our freelance retoucher accidentally overwrote a completed scene while adjusting a separate segment, and we only had a limited auto-save backup to restore the original work, costing us several hours of rework.

For our lean commercial photography team without dedicated motion designers, Vyond’s heavy image compression, weak native audio tools, and credit-based export model add unplanned labor and variable costs to client motion deliverables. These limitations force us to maintain separate editing workflows for images and sound, draining time we need for photoshoot coordination and freelance vendor management while raising the risk of missed client production deadlines.
