## About VoiceThread
A VoiceThread is a persistent virtual room that enables discussion and collaboration that’s warm and richly interpersonal, but it does so in an unscheduled and self-paced format, giving people time to think, reflect, and practice. Designed and supported by extensive learning research (ESSA III and IV certified) the tool allows people to connect meaningfully with each other and the larger world around them through rich multi-sensory discussions about shared media.

## VoiceThread Reviews
  ### 1. Quality but Limiting

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about VoiceThread?**

Produced recordings, etc. are of great quality. Users can work with recordings, add comments etc. fairly easily. Integration of VT into various platforms is straightforward.

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

VT is cumbersome beyond the basics of viewing, recording, etc. As an educator, it is okay for essential delivery, but grading, student use, etc., is not user-friendly.

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

education

  ### 2. Work effectively

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melissa A. | Program Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2022

**What do you like best about VoiceThread?**

Similar to PowerPoint its main goal is to present information to an audience and put that presentation online, but here is the twist. Not only can you put it online, but anyone who watches the presentation can also leave their own comments, annotations, and even video/audio response for each slide! That is pretty cool

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

When uploading PowerPoint can look jagged and unclean. Also crops PowerPoint to for the dimensions of the Voice Thread application. The presentation of the file looked terrible.

**Recommendations to others considering VoiceThread:**

If your seriously considering using this application I would suggest testing out Voice Thread by signing up for a free account first, or the free VT educator account. You may not be pleased with the way files upload that was my biggest issue with this application.

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Communication, Voice Thread gives you an opportunity to have accessible and open communication for all accessing the document. Options available to the user is is editing, adding comments via voice or text.

  ### 3. VoiceThread for Multimodal, Asynchronous Discussions

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tammy P. | Director, KSU RCHSS Office of Digital Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2021

**What do you like best about VoiceThread?**

VoiceThread allows for students to speak, use video, share images, draw on images, and collaborate. It provides a lot of flexibility and ways of interaction. It's very easy for students to use if the professor has set it up. With support, students can create their own VoiceThreads, as well. That means they can create presentations with voice and pictures that other students can view and respond to. VoiceThread also goes above and beyond to make sure slides are accessible.

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

I dislike that sometimes the interface with D2L makes it so that students think they are posting, but they are not. It's really a mess--and in the past it would create one gradebook column and continuously overwrite it, which is a problem. So I don't use it in D2L but rather link outside. However, if students create a free account instead of using their school account--which doesn't always work--then their work becomes invisible to the people who use the school account. There are some bugs.

**Recommendations to others considering VoiceThread:**

It's the only tool I know of that allows students in online courses to create group presentations. I also don't know of another tool that allows students to draw on slides in the asynchronous, online class.

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

VoiceThread allows me to assign group presentations in online courses that all students in the class can create and then react to and enjoy. It also allows me to put students in groups and assign them slides to annotate with a pen (perhaps put items in order or explain how a graph violates design rules, for instance). It is also very helpful in foreign language classes.

  ### 4. Decent experience but not as quality as expected

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2021

**What do you like best about VoiceThread?**

Putting audio over content is fairly easy with the platform

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

Some of the functions are difficult, also not being able to interchange audio with different slides if needed is frustrating.

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mainly love the recording function, so that's my only benefit

  ### 5. Really Good, But Room For Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2021

**What do you like best about VoiceThread?**

I like that this adds new dimensions to the way students can interact with each other and the material in the class.

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

The interface is not as intuitive as I'd like, and it seems that there is room to consider more options to open the ways it can be used.

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've added ways that students can engage with content in the class. Students seem more engaged with the material and the different ways they can interact is a real bonus.

  ### 6. Voicethread

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neeraj N. | Research assistant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2021

**What do you like best about VoiceThread?**

Voicethread is an excellent platform to share a presentation. You are able to individually record slides while changing the content of them at any time.

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

The one thing that I dislike is that VoiceThread doesn't have a way for you to show a cursor at the slides.

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to give presentations with ease.

  ### 7. VT & WFH

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2021

**What do you like best about VoiceThread?**

Being able to leave voice messages (as opposed to just text) enhances the UX and allows for an experience more akin to F2F while still allowing for flexibility.

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

Honestly, I can't think of anything I dislike (maybe a bit more of a reference option for links to sources would be a nice feature).

**Recommendations to others considering VoiceThread:**

Tutorials for new users prove helpful.

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to share information in a format that allows for a more personable format and with the flexibility for commenting in different formats (text/voice) creates a more inviting and comfortable experience for collaborating.

  ### 8. Sharing is caring!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2021

**What do you like best about VoiceThread?**

It is an awesome tool for instructors, teachers to use for various purposes. It is easy to use and user friendly. Especially those who watch the VT find it a click away to watch videos and even comment on it.

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

Not having a good audio video equipment to create the Vioce thread presentations.

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Get better audience response and wider network for recognition of my work.

  ### 9. Use VoiceThread to increase interaction!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2021

I like that users can reply using multiple formats (voice+audio+ text)

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

Some issues could happen when using with LMS grading (LTI integration)

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using VoiceThread has increased students interaction with content and allowed for more engagement.

  ### 10. VoiceThread - All in one for victory!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2020

**What do you like best about VoiceThread?**

All in one:
-Audio
-Video
-Presentation
-Pair/group work/collaboration
-Assignments/exams
-Sharing links easily

**What do you dislike about VoiceThread?**

Really can't think of anything dislike, tried hard to think but really can't!

**What problems is VoiceThread solving and how is that benefiting you?**

VT has been my main/only platform for my online class started back in 2015, it meets all my virtual classes' synchronous and asynchronous needs. Almost anything needed to be accomplished in a face to face classroom can be done on VT.
