What stands out to me with VMware vSAN is how easy it is to manage once it's part of your environment. Since everything is integrated directly into vSphere, I don't have to switch between multiple consoles just to check storage health, capacity, or performance. The interface is straightforward and most day-to-day tasks can be done in a few clicks, which saves time.
Performance has been solid for the workloads we run, and I appreciate the visibility provided by the built-in monitoring and health checks. The integration with other VMware products is also a big plus because everything works together naturally, without requiring a lot of additional configuration.
From a cost perspective, it's not the cheapest solution on the market, but the reduction in operational complexity and the time saved on administration help balance that out. Getting started was relatively smooth thanks to the available documentation and support resources, and whenever we've needed assistance, VMware support has been responsive.
The intelligent health analysis and recommendations are useful as well. They help identify potential issues early and make troubleshooting easier. Overall, vSAN has been a reliable platform that simplifies storage management and fits well into a VMware-based infrastructure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My main complaint with vSAN is that everything feels great until you run into a problem that's outside the usual day-to-day administration. Routine tasks are simple enough, but when a storage or cluster issue happens, troubleshooting can become a lot more complicated than expected and often requires digging through logs or VMware documentation.
I also think the pricing can be difficult to justify, especially as environments grow. The platform offers a lot of value, but the licensing costs can add up quickly. Another thing I've noticed is that some advanced settings and health alerts can be a bit overwhelming at first, particularly for teams that are new to vSAN.
VMware support has generally been helpful when we've needed it, but I sometimes find myself spending more time than I'd like researching alerts or trying to determine the best corrective action. The monitoring and health tools provide useful information, though I think the platform could offer more intelligent recommendations and clearer guidance when issues are detected. Overall, vSAN has been reliable, but these are the areas where I feel there is still room for improvement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
