What I like best about VMware ESXi is its rock-solid stability and highly efficient bare-metal architecture. It runs directly on the hardware with minimal overhead, allowing us to maximize CPU and memory resources across our infrastructure. Features like advanced memory overcommitment and vMotion make workload balancing seamless. The performance is incredibly consistent, and the ability to spin up new production or test environments in minutes has dramatically accelerated our deployment workflows. The recent Broadcom acquisition and licensing shifts have made it much more expensive and difficult to manage from a budget perspective. Additionally, the Hardware Compatibility Guide is exceptionally strict, meaning older but perfectly functional hardware often gets dropped from updates. Standalone hosts without a vCenter server feel heavily restricted in native management features, and the learning curve for advanced virtual networking and storage configurations can be steep for newer team members.
