## Umami Reviews
 ### 1. GDPR-Compliant Web Analytics with Umami

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lutkus L. | Senior Accounting Manager, Accounting, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Umami?**

What makes Umami stand out for our Berlin accounting practice is its privacy-first architecture that fits German GDPR rules out of the box. Hosting everything on our own EU servers means we don’t move visitor data outside the region, and cookie-less tracking removes the annoying consent popups that drove prospective clients away from our HGB and GoBD compliance guides. The platform barely eats up server resources, so it runs smoothly alongside our GoBD audit accounting archives without extra hardware costs. The dashboard layout is straightforward enough that our junior IT staff can pull traffic reports without specialized training. Since the tool is open-source, our in-house tech team tweaked its anonymization logic to match strict Finanzamt record standards. I also rely heavily on its weekly automated email summaries; our team can quickly review portal performance without logging into the system every few days, and exporting anonymized visitor logs takes just a few clicks to build audit-ready files.

**What do you dislike about Umami?**

There are several pain points tied to German regulatory workflows that slow our team down every month. None of the default report exports match the exact formatting Finanzamt auditors require, so I spend hours reworking spreadsheets manually to align with local audit documentation standards. Advanced backend menus still lack full German localization, creating delays whenever our newer IT team members configure new tracking segments. There’s no native connector linking Umami to our on-prem accounting database, which means we cross-check website lead data and client records line-by-line each reporting cycle. The alerting system is also too restrictive—we can’t set precise traffic threshold alerts for our most important tax compliance resource pages, so we miss early spikes in visitor interest unless we manually check dashboards.

**What problems is Umami solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before switching tools, third-party cloud analytics created major compliance headaches: foreign data storage broke GDPR cross-border transfer rules, and mandatory cookie banners hurt client engagement on our advisory website. Umami resolves both issues through self-hosted, anonymized tracking. We retain full control over all visitor data stored locally within the EU, generate audit-compliant traffic logs for tax authority reviews, and get clear visibility into how many potential clients access our accounting compliance guides. This cuts down our legal compliance risk and reduces admin work tied to data privacy documentation.

 ### 2. Privacy-Focused Web Analytics with Room for Better Segmentation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Umami?**

I value Umami's strict GDPR-compliant, privacy-first design and its streamlined, lightweight analytics experience that perfectly fits our marketing operations and lead data workflows. Its privacy-focused tracking stands out above many mainstream analytics tools, using cookieless tracking by default and storing all data locally, which avoids complex cookie consent banners and enhances the browsing experience. Umami’s clean and uncluttered dashboard and custom event builder simplify tracking lead intent, allowing quick setup for actions like whitepaper downloads and demo clicks. I appreciate its ability to filter traffic by geographic regions and its straightforward export of structured behavioral datasets. Umami is powerful enough to capture critical lead behavior signals, yet simple enough for my team to review without needing advanced analytics training, aligning well with Germany’s strict data privacy rules and supporting my marketing technology stack.

**What do you dislike about Umami?**

First, its built-in audience filtering capabilities are limited when separating high-intent B2B prospects from low-value traffic. I rely heavily on Clearbit’s firmographic data to segment leads by industry and company size, yet Umami only provides basic location and device filters. It lacks native ways to tag visitors based on company attributes or professional roles, so I have to cross-reference Umami’s behavioral export data with enriched lead records in spreadsheets to build precise prospect groups, adding repetitive monthly data matching tasks. Second, the funnel visualization tools lack flexible custom grouping options. When analyzing our multi-step lead capture journey for IT service inquiries, I cannot easily combine similar page events or split funnels by marketing channel in a single view. To compare conversion performance across our LinkedIn ads and industry newsletter campaigns, I must generate separate funnel reports and consolidate the figures manually.

**What problems is Umami solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Umami to track website visitor behavior and campaign performance while ensuring GDPR compliance, freeing me from complex consent forms and costly compliance. It simplifies lead tracking and data flows, but lacks advanced audience filters and flexible funnel visualizations.

 ### 3. Umami’s Simple, Privacy-Focused Analytics Done Right

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Filippo T. | CTO & Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Umami?**

What I like most about Umami is its simplicity and privacy-focused approach to analytics. The interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to quickly understand key metrics without unnecessary complexity.

**What do you dislike about Umami?**

While Umami is simple and easy to use, it can feel limited in advanced analytics features. For example, it lacks some of the in-depth segmentation, funnel analysis, or custom reporting options available in larger platforms.

**What problems is Umami solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umami solves the problem of needing website analytics that are simple, privacy-focused, and easy to understand. Unlike more complex analytics platforms, it provides the essential insights without tracking personal data or slowing down the website.

 ### 4. Providing me website analytics

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarya B. | Program Manager, Information Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Umami?**

Umami is a nice improvement over the heavy-handedness of Google Analytics. This privacy consideration is also a big plus for me, I get to monitor website usage and don’t feel that I am invading the visitors rights.

**What do you dislike about Umami?**

In terms of e-commerce tracking capabilities, Umami is quite lacking with its feature set. Those more sophisticated capabilities are missing; for instance, product behavior or user journey through the checkout process.

**What problems is Umami solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For my personal website, umami has proven to be a better Google Analytics alternative. It gives useful information about user activity without the involvement of a large number of factors and invasions of the users’ privacy.

**What do you dislike about Umami?**

That there is yet no way to increase the API rate limit.
