## UltraEdit Reviews
  ### 1. A reliable, purpose-built editor that gets the job done

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2025

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit is a functional and stable editor. It supports customizable macros to automate repetitive tasks—like log cleanup or bulk file formatting—saving us significant time. Its true multi-language support makes it easy to work across python, C++, bash, XML, JSON, and more—with accurate syntax highlighting and clear structure across the board. It handles large files effortlessly and has proven remarkably stable.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

While not minimalist by design, UltraEdit prioritizes functionality over aesthetics. Everything is where it should be. It's not trying to be everything, but what it does, it does exceptionally well.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've used it across a wide range of scenarios, from development and server configuration to mass text editing, and it has never failed to deliver.
The structured view and smooth navigation reduce visual fatigue and help us understand code faster—unlike other editors cluttered with distracting features. UltraEdit lets us open, interpret, and edit complex, multi-format files—even large ones—without slowing down.

  ### 2. Poor customer service

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2025

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I can't speak to this as I'm responsible for procurement, not use.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

They refused to refund an auto renewal of a 2 year subscription due to their "Internal Refund Policy". I don't care how useful a tool is, if the customer service is poor it doesn't matter.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can't speak to this, I'm not the end user.

  ### 3. Great IDE!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fernando F. | CEO / Consultant, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2024

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It is a well rounded IDE for a good price. I can do all my programing for multimple languages in it and replaced my aging outdated and discontinued IDEs of old allwoing me to continue to continue programing like I want.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

While it is easy to jump in and start programing it does have a bit of a learning curve to fully learn it and get the most out of it.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ultra Edit is a great programming environment for me.

  ### 4. I'm not necessarily a business user, just a common guy who's spent $1000 on UltraEdit

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anthony C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I like that UltraEdit works on multiple platforms and allows up to 3 installs per license. This allows me to have a copy on each of my machines so I don't have to juggle where my licenses are activated / installed as I change machines I'm working on.

It's also nice that it includes a hex editor, allowing me to find hidden or incompatible characters quickly. The large file size manipulation is also a significant bonus since many files I look at are > 50 MB. UE and UE Studio make viewing and modifying these files a breeze. Another feature I used quite a bit some years back is the seamless conversion to multiple file types (I used ASCII <==> IBM EBCDIC daily for quite a while.

Having all of these features, plus integrated FTP, wordfile support, column edit and other smaller QOL things which I don't know how to quantify meaningfully but are sorely missed whenever I use other editors.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Since UltraEdit is such an all-encompassing text editing software, it can certainly be overkill for simple every-day tasks. I do believe that with everything this software does, it is a trade-off I am willing to make for all of the benefits it offers.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing my files.
Reading very large logs.
Parsing and fetching data out of large console dumps.
Coding / Scripting
Macros to modify multiple files
Hex editing to find erroneous data
File conversions for different encoding / file structures

  ### 5. The ONLY editor for large data sets

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert S. | Senior Automation Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Without a doubt, it's ability to handle very large data sets. Working with data that sometimes can be several tens of thousands of lines, it's great to have an editor that can open and paginate through so much at once. In addition, it's columnar mode is a godsend for when you need to adjust data or insert something into every line. Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about it's search feature - complete with support for regex as well as being able to generate new files off of the found data!

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

With all it's features, it can be hard at times to find what you are looking for. As someone who has been using it for well over 15 years now, the menus can get overwhelming at times.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing you to virtually view any data you want - any file type - any format. It's a must-have when your day to day job involves you having to go through files that contain a lot of lines of data. It's so much better than using something like Excel. It's ability to recognize the type of data is helpful as well as it can then syntax highlight possible issues.

The greatest benefit I get is that it's my go-to editor and viewer of choice. I don't think about what tool I need to open a file of a certain type, I just know to right-click and use Ultraedit.

  ### 6. UltraEdit is a powerful text editor and coding software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vaibhav P. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit is the most powerful tool for editing text and writing code. There are multiple languages supported for writing code. We can reformat the JSON or any other file types if there are not formatted well with just a mouse click.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The cost of the license is a bit higher. There is no free version of this software available. It is a bit complex for new users as so many options are available on the menu bar.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm using UltraEdit for writing SQL scripts and some essential Java and Python codes. Also, it is helpful to reformat the JSON/XML files we receive in our Data Warehouse.

  ### 7. Easily edit large files with UltraEdit

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Felipe P. | Ingeniero de desarrollo, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I absolutely love UltraEdit's automated features, which allow me to quickly and efficiently perform tasks that would otherwise require multiple keystrokes. In addition, the larger file sizes can be edited much faster in UE compared to other editors - a must-have feature for quickly navigating changes in large EDI files! The ability to toggle hex and column modes makes it much easier to make changes to text documents of any size.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I have nothing negative to say about UltraEdit. It is an incredibly reliable and versatile program that continues to exceed my expectations with each update. The features it provides, such as syntax highlighting and macro recording, are extremely useful and make programming easier than ever before. I am extremely grateful for the impact this software has had on my development processes - thank you UltraEdit.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By using UltraEdit, I'm able to quickly and easily convert my proprietary files back to text format, which can then be indexed and searched more quickly. This saves me time in finding the right data that might otherwise be difficult to locate without this invaluable tool.

  ### 8. I can't say enough good things about UltraEdit and the suite of UltraFind and UltraCompare

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Ability to handle very large files (gigabyte size), column mode to decode .csv, Python mode to indent Python code, XML mode to highlight sections

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The only complaint I have with the suite is the speed of UltraFind. I search very large directories (600GB) for content. Ultrafind is VERY SLOW (20-30 minutes) when searching content. Even though I am running Ultrafind on a 32 core machine with solid state disks , Ultrafind only uses 1 core and very little of my disk bandwidth. I expect that if Ultrafind were multithreaded that I could reduce that search time by at least10x. Ultrafind needs to be multithreaded to take advantage of the latest in multicore CPU's and very high speed (7000MB/sec) solid state disks

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

UltraEdit - the ability to see the results of very large data mining data sets
UltraCompare - compare various Python source code forks
UltraFind - Identify previous work streams and presentations

  ### 9. Senior Banner Software developer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bonnie R. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I love connecting to the database and seeing what I would do in an SSH connection just using ultra edit. With that, I can open files, edit them, and save them back to the actual server with no FTP needed. This is handy when trying to update a file on the server and having the code highlights and helpful tools.

I also like that if I am working on the web or an HTML, I can use the tools in ultra edit to see and edit my code right in the ultra edit.

Lastly, the Ultra COMPARE is the biggest reason I want and continue to get Ultra Edit if I am making changes or putting in an upgrade, I can compare the upgraded file to the customized ones and easily create and integrate my changes. This saves so much time for me.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Not to many dislikes with all the different tools I can't really complain and the cost is also reasonable I hope it stays that way.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love the code highlighting for different code languages this is helpful when for example I strong points are in Sql and PL/SQL and oracle database when I have to edit something like Java HTML or other code its helpful to find my mistakes and figure out how to make changes to code I am not as strong in.

  ### 10. Makes XML files easy to read and edit

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

When my team started working with XML files for our product, and the files became sufficiently large, we asked our IT team for a product where we, the product owners could create/view and edit our files that was easy to learn. UltraEdit was just the thing we needed.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

For non-tech users, it can be a little difficult to learn how to compare files and find certain things in very large files for us. It just took time playing around with it and we got there.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In our project, when we were creating small test files for a proof of concept we could make our XML files "pretty" using Notepad and free "beautify" tools online. As the files became much larger with real data, we needed something that could open/edit and save these large files quickly - something that non-developer product owners could readily use. UltraEdit was recommended by our technical team.

  ### 11. Ultraedit is a very user-friendly and powerful text editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2017

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Constant improvement and powerful features like search/replace in a bunch of files at once.

Sometimes the improvements change something my fingers are use to requiring a little self retraining. There may not be a solution to this

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

You can try it for free. I guarantee you'll never turn loose of it. I'm still using it retired and more than a decade after I discovered UltraEdit.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 14. UltaEdit - useful and highly valuable tool for those working in digital forensics and CTI

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Larry L. | Research Professor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

This is a useful forensics tool to analyze suspected malicious code. The user interface is intuitive and its ability to handle large files is exemplary. I especially enjoy the character-searching capability to go through large programs. This is an important tool for cyber threat intelligence specialists working in malicious code environments.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There is an absence of high-quality distance learning resources for forensics uses of this particular tool. In forensics, settings are essential not to focus on the forensics instrument but also on the process of malicious code analysis in liturgical settings. I think there's a need for distance learning and familiarization opportunities using this excellent forensics application. The hex editor, in my opinion, is world-class. Thank you for reading my review

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cyber Threat Intelligence - code and log reviews

  ### 15. Best tool to help you with large files!

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I didn't got chance to explore all of it's features and didn't found anything bad on the ones I used.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped me work on CDR files and made it easy to modify and inspect such files easily.

  ### 16. Using it everyday

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Doug R. | Senior Electrical Controls Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Simplicity, consistency, flexibility. I've been using UltraEdit for at least 15 years if not longer. I am an industrial controls engineer and actually do not use UltraEdit for my primary programming task because the toolset I use is not very flexible.
I use more for flat file manipulation and recently adding Python as a User Tool makes quick work of simpler programming task.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Maybe that subscription services seem to be the business model now.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Additional tools like FTP and portable version is added benefit.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is doing the work of ultra editor by allowing us to open files with lines more than 20 thousand, also gives you basic yet very useful features to modify such large files.

  ### 18. A Very Large Swiss Army Knife

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Doug F. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

There are a lot of capabilities in UltraEdit that would typically require using multiple products to achieve the same results. Everything is in one product and well integrated, along with the easy creation of macros to automate repetitive tasks. Also worth noting is that the recorded macros are very fast, and the feedback to the user on progress while running the macros is excellent.

Editing large files is a breeze, which is how I first experienced UltraEdit - I tried other products, but UltraEdit was the only one that could handle huge files and not be slowed down.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Takes a bit to learn the user interface.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing large files, Git integration, extensive macros, and column-based editing.

  ### 19. Indispensable text editor

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vikalp C. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It is a super fast and powerful full-text editor. The best thing about it, it searches and replaces files even if they are not open. The built-in file comparison feature is very accurate and easy to use. It also allows me to quickly and easily search by ASCII character value.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The color coding capacity is rudimentary and keyword-based only. The menu should be a little easier to navigate. Sometimes the standard toolbar is a bit too "verbose".

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ultra edit supports all the language I need and is customizable. so it helps me a lot as I usually program in Python, Javascript, HTML, CSS, and scripts. it also cleans up files before loading them into CRM Database.

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltrEdit allows me to work quickly and has many features. Very good for eidting text on multiple lines at the same time. Great for dealing with large files. Some colleagues use for coding and sFTP connections as well. Updates are useful and relatively frequent and include new features often.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Pricing and terms of licensing is a little much for individuals, but definetly justified for a company to purchase for it's users and add to their productivity.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing data files for customers in transaction cards industry. Manipulating large amounts of data, proofing, compare features, sanity checks, multiline editing.

The wealth of features and options and all the ways the editor can be customized is great.
Handling extremely large files is amazingly fast.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I tried to use the "projects" features a few times, but I could never quite understand how to use it. I guess it can't be too hard once I really try to discover how it works if I ever feel the need to do so.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Software development in different programming languages.

It helps me create flat files and quickly find errors in code lines.

  ### 27. Like notepad on steroids

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit deftly handles different character encoding and line endings from files across platforms. The syntax highlighting is excellent, and supports all the different programming languages I use at work. Column editing mode, and multiple cursor mode, are unique and powerful ways to edit blocky code. Packed with convenience features I frequently use, such as convert selection to uppercase or lowercase, and display character properties. Another awesome feature is fine / replace in files.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit takes about 2 to 3 seconds to load after launch. Not bad, though I wish it was faster. Also, occassionally it will not open, and I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and find it in my task manager to end an invisible instance.

  ### 29. Irreplaceable!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 13, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Over fifteen years ago, when I was just starting my career, I found out about UltraEdit. I had been looking for something that easily functioned in Column Mode. It does, and it has so many other features I have been relying upon for fifteen years. I purchased an unlimited license (it hurt early on) and I still don't regret it. Also, it blows away all the other Mac text editors out there (I know because I tried them before UE was on a Mac). It's one of the pieces of software that I have to have for work and play. And it's been functioning consistently for me (if not improving) the entire time.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I really can't think of something I dislike about UltraEdit...it's just so reliable and customizable I don't think I've ever crashed it (maybe user error by opening too many files).

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Text Editing in Column Mode on a PC and a Mac. DOS command line output on a PC. One of the best ways to sneak a peak at files to make sure they are as they should be when nothing else seems to be working.

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It's easy to use and it displays sql keywords in different colors

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The editor is a bit slow in opening with respect to notepad++

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm editing my sql server scripts

  ### 31. Pros of UltraEdit

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chaitanya Viswanadh J. | Tech Support Manager, Hospital & Health Care, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2023

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit enables to edit text in different languages recognized by multiple compilers and coding IDEs

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

It comes in a dark mode by default, so the readability of the text is a bit difficult

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Able to replace tons of stings/words easily using the find/replace feature. Also able to track specific lines of text with the help of line numbers.

  ### 32. Powerful tool at best

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I used Ultraedit to write HTML and Javascript codes. The syntax highlighting is great, and it supports various programming languages. Column editing mode and multiple cursor mode are one of the best features of UltraEdit. Best among a plethora of text editors available on MAC.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Can't think of any. It takes time to load, but I believe it is due to my computer. Other than that, I have never experienced any issues with UltraEdit. It is highly customizable, so there are no problems with that.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Text Editing in Column Mode on a PC and a Mac. DOS command line output on a PC. One of the best ways to sneak a peak at files to make sure they are as they should be when nothing else seems to be working.

  ### 33. Rock solid, fast, capable and language-aware

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stewart S. | Senior Programmer/Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Overall, UltraEdit provides the level of editing power that professional programmers, web developers, and other technical users need, but they make that power very accessible.
* It's as good for editing source code as it is for editing text data files (including CSV).
* You can specify almost any common programming language; UltraEdit understands that language's syntax for code formatting and identifying functions, procedures, etc. You can also extend this feature as needed.
* It includes tools for formatting and editing CSS, JSON and HTML.
* UltraEdit performs very well when you're working with huge data files, it's very speedy!
* This editor NEVER crashes, even when doing global search/replace on big files.

Notes:
* I've only used the Windows version of UltraEdit, though they have Mac and Linus versions.
* I've used UltraEdit for over 20 years and regularly recommend it to team-mates.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

While they've made accessing settings easier over the years, I wish they'd make it even easier to find and change settings. There are some customizations I only wish I could make, so it works like I want (e.g., Home key moves to column 1, not the first non-blank column).

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use UltraEdit for all kinds of tasks:
* Coding (obviously)
* Data file editing, especially CSV files
* Searching for strings across an entire directory
* Searching using regular expressions
* Text editing/formatting that my IDE won't handle

**Official Response from Tristan Soliven:**

> Hello Stewart,

We're glad you are having a great experience using UltraEdit!

You mentioned wanting to have an easy way to search and customize a few settings— I'm delighted to inform you that UltraEdit has a specific feature that does exactly that!

The command palette provides a quick and easy way to find any feature or setting without diving into the menus.

You can access it by using the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + P , or by clicking its icon in the right of the ribbon bar menu, next to the help icon.

For example, you can change what the home page key does by searching for "home key" on the command palette. You can learn more using the link below.

 Hope this helps!

  ### 34. Fantastic editor for programmers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marcello S. | Coordinatore del Corso di Laurea in Ingegneria Elettronica, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2020

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Speed, easy of use, many unique features.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Nothing. Each feature is well thought out.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

It is the best editor for programmers. It is an excellent investment.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

UltraEdit is perferct editor for programmers. The source recognition and thr possibility to save in every format is very good.

  ### 35. Indispensable!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jim C. | Director of Systems Marketing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Everything: Performance, flexibility, customization. Most especially: macro support, ability to handle huge text files, hex view, fast search-and-replace, etc.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

One (very) minor complaint; the option to view the ASCII table used to be in a more prominent position in the menu structure, on the "View" tab, I think. Then, I believe, it was moved under "Font" or "Print" for a few releases, and now it's under Layout. Finding this quick reference tool is the only thing I remember ever going to the "Help" menu for. UE is that intuitive!

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an analyst/developer, a lot of what I do is database conversions, so I am dealing with outside files in all kinds of "weird and wonderful" formats. UE makes it so easy to record and then edit a macro to clean up files before loading them to our CRM database.

  ### 36. Been using Ultra Edit since the '90s

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Miles-Kevin B. | Vice President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I have been using UltraEdit since at least 1996. I had to go digging but found a support request to unlock my software for ver. 2.10. While I have used it mostly for coding, I've used it to clean up data for data transfers, recover files, troubleshoot file issues, compare files, search and replace in files, pretty much every major feature over the years. And yes, over the years I have periodically tried other editors and while they are generally good at one thing, they'll lack something like column mode, the ability to tile the windows or to do a search and replace over multiple files or something else I use often.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I really can't think of anything I dislike. I wish the FTP utility was a little more robust as I still really need/like a separate FTP software, but honestly, that's not really the function of an editor, just a personal wish.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Aside from the day-to-day website development I do, I recently needed to check an entire website to ensure a phrase was not used. I backed up the site to a local folder and searched every file for the phrase and parts of the phrase. Took just a moment and I easily edited the few places it found. The whole process took just a few minutes. It's little tasks like these that use Ultraedit often in addition to editing/writing code. It has saved me so much time over the years.

**Official Response from Tristan Soliven:**

> Hi Miles-Kevin. Thank you for using UltraEdit through the years.

To your comment, UltraEdit also offers UltraFTP which is a standalone FTP client. However, it is built upon the same framework so it integrates seamlessly with the editor.
For example, you can share FTP accounts between UltraEdit and UltraFTP. Hopefully, with this suite of tools you can create a complete and integrated solution tailored to your needs.

  ### 37. Great experience for beginners and experienced developers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pol H. | Researcher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2017

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit is the best suite to code and develop in different programming languages. The best is the window layout, where you can see all the files you are editing at a time. Plus, with multiline cursor you can select different lines at different positions with a single cursor. I can program in many languages such as C++, Python, XML, HTML, PHP, C, etc. It has also an embedded Hex editor that allows you to edit programs in hex mode. Moreover, it is being updated constantly giving me new features that I find very useful.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Probably the thing that I dislike it is it becomes slow when you edit multiple files and I need to find words or expressions. Searching in files needs an improvement and it worked properly in the previous version. Probably it will be fixed in next updates.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Try it. It can offer you many advantages. No matter what is your favorite programming language. UltraEdit is perfect for all.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a senior coder and it is the best editor that I could test with. It is flexible, lightly and I can have a layout of my program in many windows. It is perfect for professional developing. I need to open many files at once and UltraEdit allows me to have a general overview of all of them. In the past I tried many editors but no one offers what UltraEdit offers to me.

  ### 38. One of the best alternative to VSCode or any other text editor

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Arts and Crafts | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I like the interface, as much as I use VSCode in the past I like this one better

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Its overwhelming at first, a short but detailed tutorial on how things work might be useful (even though the interface is straightforward, but still for a better User experience)

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was having an issue regarding the use of redundancy when writing a code, which is very time consuming and not efficient overall. But the column mode that UE provides is very useful to create many codes that has the same origin (which is time saving & eliminates any redundancy whatsoever)

  ### 39. Great tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

Flexibility - ultraedit allows you to customize the software to meet your needs.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I wish I had deeper integration with statistical software, such as SAS or Stata - even syntax highlighting continues to not work well.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integrating text editing, version control, Consol into one window is really nice.

  ### 40. Ultraedit has been my go to Tecxt Editor of choice for most of my career

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phil W. | Head of Software Development, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

The nice clean, customisable IDE which makes text manipulation and indeed coding, extremely easy. The regular updates, and my lifetime purchase of those updates makes life very easy.
Their support function has always been extremely helpful and responsive.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I've not found any issues with Ultredit in all the years of using it, although I was sad when it no longer fitted on a single floppy disk. Although that says more about my age than anything else.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Get it, it's well worth the cost and frankly much better than Sublime or Notepad++. The latter's only benefit is that it is slightly cheaper [ (c) Douglas Adams ]

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm alternating between using as a generic text editor for manipulating large amounts of text, such as test csv data and then using it as an IDE with build in FTP, syntax highlighting, etc.
The benefits I've mostly seen are extremely intuitive and fast controls that enable me to work at an increased pace. I've been a cod monkey for twenty plus years now, and this product has followed me around since I first discovered it.

  ### 41. Great experience with Ultraedit

Best text editor in town, very easy to use and dependable

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Security is lesser compared to other text editors like notepad, need to add more features like showing the snippets

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Programming is hassle free using Ultra Edit

  ### 42. UltraEdit is great for many many things, one of my most versatile tools!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David B. | Band Instructor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2017

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I love working with UltraEdit -- it is now my go-to text editor. It is the editor in which I edit and create pages for my website. It allows me to see the changes immediately, and the FTP function makes moving things between my computer and my website. The number of different programming languages it supports is excellent. The frequency of updates is impressive, and they are all very substantive updates. Well worth the price.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There is nothing that I dislike about Ultraedit!

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Ultraedit is the perfect tool for programmers and HTML designers.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been able to keep my web-site up to date and make changes in my html without resorting to 3rd-party website tools so my html is lean and efficient. Ultraedit is also my go-to program for plain text when I need it. The FTP functions are wonderful for moving things between my computer and my website.

  ### 43. Excellent and More

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I have been using IDM products especially Ultraedit for years now on WIndows, Mac and Linux. It has been my go to editor (and more) since the beginning. I have used it for reading and formatting files, comparing data, etc, etc. The sky seems to be the limit.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

None. The IDM folks and their products are the BEST; par none.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Increased creative time, proper editing and saving of multiple file types and now with cloud storage to save settings and other bits of data. While it is a developers tools, I have also used across common formats of data with success and in this it has helped me to serve my customers better.

  ### 44. Best Editor Ever!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Todd D. | Director Development Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

An editor that I can use on any development project. It is fast and has every feature I need. When I am developing I can jump to any solution I need.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Nothing UltraEdit does everything I need it to and it is easy to use and has the feature and funtions I need.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

If you need an editor that can open any file regardless of the size or application it was created with then UltraEdit is for you. I have been using it for years.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can open any file in any project solution and make quick and easy changes. Also, there are times when you need to look at HEX, and it is a simple one-click to do that.

  ### 45. The best editor and one of the first things I install on new computers.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stacey L. | Sr. Customer Success Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I started using UltraEdit 20ish years ago when I was managing EDI files. UltraEdit made it easy to work with and validate fixed width files. It is very fast to start up and use. It's intuitive and continually improves. I use it today to look at and edit everything from JSON and XML files to JavaScript.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

The only thing that comes to mind as far as dislike, is that there is a full suite of tools and sometimes I am unsure why I should use UltraEdit vs UltraStudio. I would really like all of the tools to be together.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

It's cross platform, the few times I have needed to access support they have been super responsive. All in all - one of the few tools I use on a regular basis.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

UltraEdit - in my initial use - made it possible to easily deal with large numbers of files. Now I use it for everything including editing JS files, working with queries and general text editing.

  ### 46. Excellent program and excellent customer service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert M. | Senior Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

UltraEdit is fast, powerful, intuitive, and necessary to troubleshoot problems with data.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There is nothing to criticize with UltraEdit, and I am working with a five-year-old version!

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I submitted an old data file to a vendor. Instead of providing an error code pointing to the faulty record, the file caused their system to crash. I could see nothing wrong with the file on my end. I bought UltraEdit and located an unprintable character in a free-text field. Using UltraEdit, I removed the unprintable character and resent the file.

  ### 47. Even 20 years into the next century effectively manipulating text files is STILL sooo NECESSARY

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Barry L. | A, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2018

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

I have been using Ultra-Edit for over 20 years. It is, without a doubt the, most adaptable, reliable text editor EVER. When I first started, I found its simplicity and intuitive nature to be what I liked best. Still, now with the myriad of coding choices appearing almost daily, it is nice to know that the one tool I rely upon embraces the chaos of the impossibly dynamic game of syntax.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

There have been many, MANY, additional features added to the tool over the years. While I am sure SOME developers need these features, but for a simple developer like myself, It can slow down access to the elegant simplicity on which I rely.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

This is to developers what hammer and saw are to carpenters...if it ain't in your toolbox you cannot properly hone your craft!

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Today I am about to abandon the proprietary application generation tools that have served us so well over the past 20+ years and enter the world of One-Size-does-not-fit-anyone to accomplish the Custom Fit that all my customers deserve. Because IDM's Ultra-edit has so adeptly adapted to coding dynamics, I am, just today, ALL in with IDM ALL Access. I expect that now I will be able to build the kinds of things that are needed instead of merely providing what is available.

  ### 48. Good editor for all purposes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rolf B. | Selbstständig, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2021

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

The editor does not lose the data and windows even if it is closed, and you can continue working where you left off.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I'm not too fond of the fact that programs disappear from the suite and that the newly added programs are only activated for us through a subsequent purchase.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Buy the complete Suite of UltraEdit

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use this Editor for PHP and HTML editing, and it works best. With this, we get the tool to do our work more rapidly as with other editors.

  ### 49. Flexible and Easy to Use Text Editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Narendra N. | Lead Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

After working with UltraEdit, I found it's intuitive and easy to Use Text editors compared with Others in the market.
The "column editing" feature is the best I like about UltraEdit.

Also, It regularly gives updates, and sometimes, they are beneficial.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

I've not found any significant issues with Ultredit in all the years of using it, but It takes a while to open big files. Can it be a little bit faster? So that it will not take much time to load.

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work with Content Management for an Intranet website, so the Text Editor is the primary benefit I have realised because I can compare the new release file with already existing ones. Hence, I am aware of the changes to be made.

  ### 50. Easy to use and great capabilities

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2022

**What do you like best about UltraEdit?**

It's lightweight and have feature to correct syntax, feedback in the language which u r using, it provides modular design, extensive customisation function as regards to layout, topic and code.

**What do you dislike about UltraEdit?**

Should have community to do discussion. Like eclipse, atom and sublime has. Also price is a big turn off.

**Recommendations to others considering UltraEdit:**

Yes absolutely

**What problems is UltraEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to write code and edit it. It's way to easy in ultra edit so whenever I want to do some serious and extensive editing or manipulation I use it
