What do you like best about TWiki?

It was simple and easy to use, and you can install your own version of TWiki in your organization. It also has various plugin supports and can be integrated with other software like LDAP, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TWiki?

To efficiently use the features of TWiki, it requires a certain level of training; it will not be straightforward. Users need to understand how the concepts of Web, Topic, and attachment are linked, and there could be cases where one Topic acts as a Parent for another. This architecture will involve certain learning curves. Also, the initial setup will require certain efforts, like setting up an Apache Web server first, then installing or compiling the Perl module in Apache. It is beneficial to have exposure to PERL for a TWiki administrator. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering TWiki:

TWiki as a Content Management option could be great, but you need to have a good administrator who can smoothly set up TWiki for you and can look upon issues on a day-to-day basis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TWiki solving and how is that benefiting you?

We were trying to develop a plugin in TWiki that will serve the Topic content to third-party software like Google Search Appliances and other search engines. As TWiki pages are rendered from a template, it cannot be straightforwardly crawled by web crawlers. The 'view source' operation on a TWiki page will just render template code, without any HTML body, making it difficult to crawl the page. The plugin we developed helps Google Search Appliances and other search engines to get the exact content from the template so the search can be fired upon such content.
