"Streamlined Pre-Travel Approval, But Needs Better Integration"
4.5/5
What do you like best about TripApproval?

I value how TripApproval is laser‑focused purely on the approval gate for work travel without bloated extra features we will never use as a small law practice. It doesn’t try to handle hotel bookings, mileage tracking or expense generation, which keeps the interface clean and uncomplicated for our non‑technical team members. Its straightforward routing logic is where it really shines. Whenever one of our practicing lawyers submits a trip request for out‑of‑town court hearings or on‑site client consultations, the submission automatically routes straight to our office manager, our designated approver, and I receive a separate notification as HR coordinator. Before adopting TripApproval, all these travel requests flooded my general inbox mixed with case emails, client correspondence and holiday‑change requests. I can recall one chaotic Tuesday where we received six separate court‑travel requests from different attorneys. Those messages got buried under dozens of incoming mails, and I almost lost track of two pending approvals entirely. Now every pending, approved or rejected trip sits inside TripApproval’s dedicated queue view. I can glance over the list in a minute, no more scrolling through hundreds of email threads. On top of that, it generates immutable audit trails for every single travel submission. Every user comment, exact submission timestamp and final approval signature stays permanently stored inside the platform. Working in a German legal‑services firm, proper documentation matters for internal spot‑checks and potential GDPR‑related audits. A couple months back, our firm had an internal compliance review. I pulled up records for three‑month‑old court trips right inside TripApproval and presented complete approval logs in minutes. Before this tool, I would have had to dig through archived email folders for hours to gather the same proof. TripApproval gets rid of those risky informal hallway conversations and verbal approvals that used to create so much ambiguity. It keeps our court‑travel authorization process centralized, organized and traceable. That said, it still lacks Zoho People sync and legal‑specific custom fields, but its lean approval‑oriented design is what makes it so practical for our small legal HR day‑to‑day work. What do you dislike about TripApproval?

Most importantly, there is absolutely no native integration with Zoho People, our main HR platform where we manage attendance, holiday balances and all employee master records. All approved trip data stays siloed inside TripApproval. After every request gets signed off by our office manager, I have to manually copy employee name, travel dates and destination over into Zoho People to adjust attendance status. This manual hand‑off creates real‑world human‑error risks we have already experienced firsthand. Not long ago, I was juggling three full new‑hire onboarding processes: preparing employment contracts, setting up user accounts and completing document checks for two paralegals and one junior lawyer. During that very busy stretch, a junior associate got his regional court‑hearing trip fully approved within TripApproval. Overloaded with competing priorities, I completely forgot to transfer that travel entry to Zoho People. When our payroll team ran monthly attendance validation, they flagged this attorney as an unexcused office absence. I had to stop my ongoing onboarding work, locate the original TripApproval approval record, screenshot the full timestamped log, and hold a follow‑up discussion with payroll to get his working‑day status corrected. This whole stressful back‑and‑fourth situation would have been completely avoidable with even a basic one‑way data sync between both systems. There are also zero pre‑built custom fields tailored for legal‑service workflows. Nearly every business trip our staff take links to a unique case file number and specific court venue address. TripApproval offers no dedicated input boxes for these critical details. Our lawyers have to squeeze all that context inside one single free‑text description box. Six months ago, I needed to pull travel history tied to a high‑profile civil case. I had to manually read through over 40 different free‑text entries hunting for matching case references, wasting a large chunk of my afternoon. There is also no built‑in reminder function to nudge me about newly‑approved trips requiring Zoho People updates. The onboarding material also does not include GDPR guidance for German law firms. While TripApproval delivers solid approval functionality, these limitations add heavy repetitive work and create avoidable mistakes for our small legal HR team.
