**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ruby G. | Senior Content Writer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2021

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

ThoughtSpot helped us to analyze the performance of our different campaigns, create reports and make better decisions on calculated data points. The creation of interactive reports is super easy which comes in handy while going to a meeting. It is used by certain sets of departments of our organization such as technical, consultants, or marketing.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

If you are using it for the first time, then it can be a little complicated to use.
Structuring of the database can be difficult sometimes, therefore better documentation for that is needed
Assigning user access and roles can be a little tricky.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ThoughtSpot is well suited in scenarios where you want to make decisions based on the collected data, create reports, and plan future budgets and forecasts. It is a perfect fit for the finance and sales departments. It is not well-suited for front office departments where they are not directly involved with these kinds of scenarios and decisions.

  ### 4. A system that really helps!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen S. | Product Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2021

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

ThoughtSpot allows quick and simple visualization of complex data in a way that would have previously taken significant time to do in excel. This has saved me significant amounts of time in my day-to-day role, allowing me to focus on taking that information and making informed decisions.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

There isn't much to dislike about the system, but as with all new technology, there is a bit of a learning curve, and it can take some time to ensure that the data you put into the system is set up in a way to get the best results.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ad-hoc analysis of complex data in excel used to take significant amounts of time; ThoughtSpot has allowed this analysis to be done in a significantly quicker and more efficient way - saving time and money.

adhoc requests can be reduced to a minimum, dashboards become obsolete so quickly when you have new questions.

**Reviewed by:** Dave R. | Product Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

NLS is easily the best part of the system as it allows non-technical personnel to mine their data without knowledge of SQL or other querying language.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Often Thoughtspot will suggest charts and visualizations that are not what I want, and even after modifying from the default after making a slight tweak to the search terms, the visualization will revert to the originally suggested chart (even if the change didn't invalidate the previous chart i.e., removing measures or attributes required for the chart)

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are trying to offer our customers a simple way to generate reports and derive insights from their data. This goal has been realized through full integration of the Thoughtspot offering and has given our customers precisely this.

  ### 22. Lofty marketing messages that product can't deliver

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2021

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

The marketing messages and the promise of being able to search for insights than have to use dashboards or clicks.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

- Horrible sales process. Cookie-cutter demos, they were just lazy not to spend any effort to create a demo for what was relevant for us i.e. how would a sales funnel look like, or product usage trends.
- Sales team reminded us of car-salesmen constantly trying to tell how great their product was without any empathy for customer needs or goals
- Incompetent customer success team - doesn't have basic understanding of datawarehouses, data models, only focuses on showing features in the tool.
- We are more than 6 months into our one-year contract, and have created zero pinboards, zero adoption in the company
- Cloud edition is a joke, half the features don't work and are half baked. Basic features like editing/formatting fields seem too hard to use.
- Buy this tool at your own peril, if you have an army of BI developers that can baby sit this retarded product.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

Don't fall for their marketing messages. Run a rigorous POC where you have them show exactly what you want done. Don't settle for their cookie-cutter demo (who knows if all of it is hard-coded)

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The basic problem is getting to use Thoughtspot. We haven't been able to use the damn product in 6 months.

  ### 23. New embedded customer

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

Product look and feel, ease of use, the natural search leads the way for less technical people to find answers to their questions. The team has provided a ton of support to us throughout the entire relationship.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Nothing to speak of yet we are fairly early into our journey.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

We ran pilots with three of the leaders and one that was not a leader to check out a lighter weight product. You should consider putting TS on your short list and doing a test drive.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are building a B2B analytics and attribution platform. The robust set of features down to simple things like the ability to create reports and schedule when they are emailed out as a MASSIVE time to market accelerator vs building an analytics front end from scratch. Business ROI is very high.

  ### 24. Great Insight Tool for Analytics

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tawanna A. | Vice President, Global Sr. BI Platform Owner, JLL Technologies, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

AI Search capabilities to quickly get answers to our business real estate questions.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

It's a new product that we have added to our BI suiite of applications, so we are still evaluating the AD Sync, which appears to be not as simple. But I still recommend the tool.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick analytics at the hands of our business users. The benefits we have realized thus far is the ease of use to leverage ThoughtSpot with Snowflake to quickly get to finding answers related to across account savings for our clients, quickly identify CRE space and lease opportunities across our portfolio.

I am solving the issue of looking into data. It helps you share business data more easily

  ### 26. I believe that thoughtspot is relatively easy and simple to use and also designing the visuals.

still exploring and working on it

  ### 27. Thoughtspot Great BI solution

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Hardware | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

Fast data setup for search.
Search experience is very good , it is fast and agile even with complex search.
Able to provide API's for customization. We can query millions of data for our application in seconds.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Currently Thoughtspot development focus on cloud but our current platform is "On Premise".
So we are left behind in terms of the new and advance features.

Also I don't like is , when I issue a ticket most of the time the SRE is very slow to answer.
Then if they answer and say "let's schedule a call when are you available?" I will answer with my availability but they will not answer back for days. This is very annoying.....

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have solved a lot of manual data handling , report generation , easy access to data.
Currently we are exploring intelligence functions in Thoughtspot.

  ### 28. Great Product and Great Team

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert R. | Revenue Operations Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2021

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

From onboarding to product features to customer service - the whole experience was just incredible. Natural language querying is instantly is the best feature.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

The downside at the beginning was that ThoughtSpot didn't come equipped with recurring revenue dashboard samples, but the ThoughtSpot team worked with us and shared solutions to get our reporting up and running.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were looking for an easy to set-up and use BI tool that can be adopted company-wide and doesn't require users to have technical SQL knowledge but still empowers them to query data.

ad hoc analytics
querying across datasets from internal and external sources in real time
data virtualizaiton

  ### 30. Simple Search and AI analytics

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2021

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

A self-service, user-friendly platform that doesn't need an analyst to get answers from business data, and the AI aspect answers questions I would not have thought to ask. There are managed service options where I could start small and grow rather than having to go for the enterprise option from the start.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

As it's still new to the market compared to other analytics solutions, some functions need further development; however, that's part of evolving.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

Keep an open mind when considering ThoughtSpot as Assimil8 offer a tiered approach starting at a lower entry point than enterprise so that you can start small and grow as your use case increases

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Instant search enables users to answer question after question without delay

  ### 31. 2 Decades across every BI Tool and I've finally found THE ONE with ThoughthSpot

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Visualization customization in terms of fonts, sizing on pinboards and a diminished ability to create more customized visualizations

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

How we can maximize profits, particularly in foreign exchange markets, identify potential risky clients based on profiles, pinpointing operational inefficiencies to be addressed to minimize expenses while improving customer experience.

  ### 32. Monetizing your data!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2019

With ThoughtSpot companies can monetize their data to external customers, field sales reps, distributed workforces with ease! Put the power of data in the hands of the people! ThoughtSpot's convenient "hooks" into Snowflake are AWESOME!

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Originally ThoughtSpot was marketed as having a "Google-like" search interface; TS has back-pedaled on that a bit. Use a reputable partner like Axis Group - Winner of Partner of the Year 2019 and 2020 -- to get the most bang for your buck from ThoughtSpot!

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When your company wants data-driven insights FAST, ThoughtSpot delivers. It is very fast to deploy and prove value! Not all BI Tools can say that.... and it scales beautifully! So there's not a lot of risk upfront for customers.

The speed of data queries and visuals updating on the fly

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Although they sell themselves as the Google of data analysis, it still requires some learning on how to filter data appropriately

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Claims analysis to identify any trends overtime

  ### 35. Implementation of ThoughtSpot at a Fortune 100 company to analyze big data and augment analytics.

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

Analyze big data using natural language processing, voice search, curate data sets for end consumers that do not have a technical background. The implementation of large > TB data sets is fairly seamless and has good data security and encryption on their proprietary backend. Overall the UI via the website was also very clean and the packaged visualizations and data tables were very straight forward with an ease of use to manipulate and customize the visuals and data tables. The implementation team that came in to help was also very helpful and approachable.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

The ability to merge data sets took a large bit of manipulation. At times the voice search wasn't the most perfect and you had to set a large dictionary of synonyms and similar words to match the column names to make the ease of search more viable so it took a lot of initial work on the front end to set up a single data source to get up and running. A lot of the information was proprietary so learning about the SQL engine was a bit more difficult to grasp and gain the understanding of it.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

If you are looking for a large, big data abled handling utilizing end UI/data exploration and dashboarding, ThoughtSpot could be the wave of the future. Utilizing NLP and voice search are also exciting and can help augment your analytics to fit and enhance your tech roadmap.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems being solved with ThoughtSpot are big data challenges, streaming large data sets, refreshing those data sets, and having curated data sets readily available for end consumers to save time curating but more time digging and developing insights using the context of their knowledge.

The UI and UX - it has amazing NLP processing capability that helps any user learn the product in matter of hours and not even days. With its senseIQ - Machine learning automation you can quickly build insights.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

The cost is too high and based on GB or TD of data you store in the memory which is very high on cost. Also it should have equal capability to be able to drag-drop and build report and not just stuck with Q&A

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Self-service BI for everyone including the business users and democratization data to bringing quick business insights.

  ### 40. ThoughtSpot

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prashast V. | Trainee Decision Scientist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 28, 2020

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

The best thing about ThoughtSpot is that its business-friendly and does not require any prior knowledge of the backend to get insights out of the worksheets already created by the development team.
Also, the UI is very simple and the Spot IQ feature will come in very handy in the ear future

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

The glitches in Thoughtspot while saving your work is very annoying. Also, the loading of data through various sources like redshift is not that easy, however I think that has been resolved in the latest update.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

You should definitely give it a try

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am working for a Data Analytics company ad use ThoughtSpot to create meaningful insights of the data generated by the businesses.
As I mentioned earlier, ThoughtSpot is not tech-heavy and has a very intuitive UI

  ### 41. Future of Self Serve Analytics

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bharat M. | Analytics - Tableau/Thoughtspot Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2020

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

Super easy to create front end analytical dashboards for naive users unlike the any other tool in the market, this tool is easier to learn, especially for business users.Apart from this, this is also delivering the data fastest as well, then leading visualization software available. Few tricks and twiks, this tool has all the capabilities of leading BI reporting tools in the market.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Setting up the data needs a full fledged data expert who also has complete data architecture knowledge of all the systems of an organization. In addition to this, it also would take up large amount of time to setup the design flow, which could be cumbersome task and lead to confusions for the users as well. For small companies and start ups it could be disguise because of the time consumption it takes before one can actually do any reporting.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

Unless you are full fledged organization and willing invest good amount money and time, I would recommend using other leading tools

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As they say, reporting is underlying need to run and grow exponentially any business successfully. Basics problem we are trying to solve here using this tool is self service analytics for users and minimizing any kind of dependencies on technical teams for creating advanced analytical dashboards.
Once data setup is done for an organization (which could take big amount time) and users are in the systems they could be given a quick demos and training on the usage of this tool, business users can create perfectly and fine tunes reporting dashboards.

  ### 42. Solid tool with a wide array of data points

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex B. | Account Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2020

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

Huge variation in data inputs. Comprehensive. Decent amount of visualizations. Plugged-in well with most Microsoft Office tools that were used. Highly customizable and very reliable compared to most other data anlaytics tools I've used, even others within the same role I performed.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Slow load time after changing data streams and filters being used. I Could have done with more suggestions and guidance or some form of best practices & automated analysis.

It's a big ask, but some basic AI or correlation metrics and signals would have been a massive business value-add and delivered untold hours spent working with the tool on an ad hoc basis.

At Walmart, there was an entire program of specialists who would start most days checking Thoughtspot data and parse through tables and information. The business value and customer retention would accelerate if Thoughtspot was able to deliver a small handful of actionable insights, outliers and anomalies that the program picks out programmatically.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

Create and save boards with information that you have decided is impactful. Don't get caught in the weeds of endless data.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I no longer use the tool but it gave significantly better clarity and visibility into what was driving sales performance and customer preferences. It's pretty clear what the main value of Thoughtspot is: ingest and organize data, then give maximum flexibility to adjust the data to whatever situation or granularity needed.

In short, solid and descriptive statistics around what drove business.

  ### 43. Great for business users, tedious for complex BI reporting

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shantanu B. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2020

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

The things best about ThoughSpot are:
1. The user interface is extremely well thought out. It is extremely easy to use. In fact, it just took me half an hour to learn and start building pinboards on ThoughtSpot. Even our business users who do not have technical background could pick it up easily. This gave them self service ability as well
2. The costing model is extremely good as well. Seeing that now there are a huge number of users for any report in a large company, pricing based on storage space instead of number of licenses is a very good model
3. The company listens: we kept putting in various requests of what should be added to TS, one being materialized views and in the next release it was added as a feature. The feedback mechanism is very good

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

The functionality is limited as compared to industry standard BI tools like Tableau. Especially in two areas:
1. Customizing layouts, colors, graph types is not that simple and often times not possible. There are only five sizes present, limited colors and graph types. This often times means that we are not able to deliver what the client wants.
2. SQL functions like window functions which can be readily coded in other platforms are not present in ThoughtSpot. This puts unnecessary pressure on the data model to be specifically tailored for TS and therefore less reusable.
3. There is a lack of community support at the moment if we face any new problems or constraints since it is a new tool
4. Currently live connection to data is not possible, only Excel extracts can be uploaded to build reports

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

There should be quite a number of considerations before you decide to use ThoughtSpot:
1. Number of users: Pricing is better in TS if he user base is large
2. Functionality required: Do not use ThoughtSpot for extremely complex dashboards. It is for moderate level business reporting at the moment
3. Type if users: If there are more business users, or people with limited tech background, go for it

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In our project we were building performance reports for claims handling process of a large Australia based insurer. The key problems why we used TS was:
1. The pricing model: The old reports were scattered across multiple platforms including Tableau. A large user base meant that license costs were way more than set up cost of TS

2. We also wanted to give business users the ability to play around with the data, and TS gave us that ability

  ### 44. Best AI Based Reporting Tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aashi A. | Trainee Decision Scientist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2020

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

Spot IQ is one of the best feature which allows me to analyse data quickly .
Also the level of freedom it gives to any data analyst in terms of searching the data and the way joins can be applied is recommendable.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

The fact that we need to select each column of the worksheet individually while searching.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

Very easy to use. Design is very user friendly.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am working with an Insurance company as a data analyst. I basically create visualisations for the data which allows my client to look at the reports

  ### 45. A powerful tool for visualization

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akrita V. | Application Development Associate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 07, 2020

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

The power of AI which has been designed in a way that it understands what we want to search just on the basis of keywords.
It also has SpotIQ that definitely deals with the real information.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

1) Should include more graphical approach to have better picture.
2) Should include sharing feature

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been working on visualizing data and now can retrieve information in jiffy.
I am also looking into the design part and understanding the authentication ways .

Benefits are- it has reduced my work load and also saved a lot of time(as mentioned above).

  ### 46. Amazing reporting tool

The wide variety of features that ThoughtSpot offers is great, easy to understand user interface and some great improvements when compared to other BI tools

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Limitations of uploading a file in the tool are very disadvantageous

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

Its a great tool for beginners to start with and additional advantage for using the advanced Though Spot features and implementations

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The analytics reports and creating dashboards on ThoughSpot is easier and helps me provide my clients with a better analysis. I have benefited the most while doing analysis and creating reports for better understanding

Limitations around data modelling, cannot do any data manipulation inside tool.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Naman M. | Business Intelligence Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2020

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

I have never seen a tool like Thoughtspot in my entire life. I have used this tool almost since its inception and was very much impressed from the entire product.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

Updates for ThoughtSpot were kind of slow as compared to other leading tools in the market. To compete with them, it has to speed up development.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ThoughtSpot Search and SpotIQ are the competent tools one can utilize to solve the business problems.

  ### 49. ThoughtSpot A Great Self Service Tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin C. | Business Intelligence Engineer, Financial Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2019

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

I like the simplicity of the tool for end user questions. I work in BI and I work with ThoughtSpot end users everyday. I have found that the tool puts the power in their hands. I have seen great answers created by end users and it is amazing what they can do when they have information in their hands. ThoughtSpot has saved me a ton of time in development because the end users can do it all themselves.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

The biggest issue we have ran into is the need to create additional views when wanting to create aggregates or comparing the same column over a period of time. In the sense that have customers that purchase our product and there is not an easy way to pull this customers oldest product and their newest product based on a simple date field. If there was a better way to do this comparison bascially making the customer table the main part of a worksheet without having to do that extra work that would be a great win for the end users.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtSpot:**

ThoughtSpot has been a great tool for giving power and knowledge to the end users with little extra backend work. It has not required excessive development though its life which has been great for allowing us as engineers to get more work done. We truly enjoy using ThoughtSpot and we look forward the the cotinued innovations they are promising.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have completely eliminated the need for a dedicated engineer to be assigned to our Compliance team. They were one of our first user buy ins and we have seen great success there. We have also seen on that same team they no longer need to go to our BI team for adhoc requests. We have also provided the product to our product team who uses the tool to review and answer questions about our Customer Journey which has been a big win for us in understanding who our customer is.

  ### 50. Super easy & fast

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacob M.

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2019

**What do you like best about ThoughtSpot?**

Rapid queries, and being able to answer questions so quickly. The customization of being able to iterate different visualizations effortlessly to rapidly check on the best option to tell the story.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtSpot?**

The lack of customization in visualizations for final share to pdfs for clients. The site is not live/shareable for our customers (based on company security), so currently I cannot add additional visuals, or images, or slides to ThoughtSpot. I want it to be a one stop shop to create a data driven presentation. Instead, I take screengrabs of charts I need, and drop them into a Google Slides template. If I want to export to a jpeg, the visualizations change (text becomes smaller/illegible on the charts), so screengrab is the only option I use to maintain integrity of the visuals.

Also, I cannot keep conditional formatting in exported pdfs. If I have a charted that highlights in red negative trends, those are lost on the table in the pdf.

I am not sure which of these features have been resolved with the new updates coming for pdf exports.

**What problems is ThoughtSpot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reviewing my sales territory to better understand opportunities, tracking growth of sales/revenue, quickly prepare business performance stats for customers.

I love being able to pull questions while talking to a customer, and seem immediately knowledgeable about their unique needs.
