The system has not had any performance issues while I have used it and this is a really important part of how good it is. There are no systems out there that I've found, including Sycamore, that accommodate this type of grading, so we are forced to be "creative" with the classrooms and grading and keep many of the grades in spreadsheets outside of Sycamore. **What problems is Sycamore solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sycamore keeps our school information organized and accessible--going all the way back to the beginning of the school in 2010! We are able to access what we need and complete processes like attendance, grade reporting, behavior reporting, records requests, communication with parents and students by email and text, and more. Sycamore has allowed us to not break our budget. The app for attendance works really well. The gradebook is fine. It's comparable to most other gradebooks I have used, and so it works well for us. **What do you dislike about Sycamore?** One of my biggest concerns is limitations with transcript and report card format. We need more flexibilty in particular with transcripts (not enough space, need to list more classes than box provides, need an easier way to move 8th grade classes up to 9th). Overall, it is simply not as user friendly as many programs that educators interact with. The font is small, and it's not always intuitive. The steps are not always intuitive. We house student and staff data, create report cards, send emails to classes, and even allow families to connect with each other. **What do you dislike about Sycamore?** I wish texting was a usable feature. The built in one is ridiculous. Even the reps I spoke with said to purchase School Messenger to text. **Recommendations to others considering Sycamore:** This is easy to use. I LITERALLY HAVE TO CHOOSE THE ENTIRE CLASS AND THEN CLICK OFF EVERY PARENT I DON'T WANT TO SEND THE TEXT MESSAGE TO. The attendance system works smoothly and can be modified easily. It is easy to input grades and modify them where necessary. The interface is clean and it is not hard to navigate around the site. **What do you dislike about Sycamore?** The messaging feature does not always work and does not always notify you if you have received a message. I often miss messages and then have angry customers because of this. The login via email also does not always work and I often have to login twice. There are several redundant features which have a purpose that is unclear to me. **Recommendations to others considering Sycamore:** There are other systems that will work more smoothly and functionally than Sycamore. I would therefore not recommend Sycamore ahead of alternative software. The missing work, excused work, etc. does not transfer over from Google Classroom. There are not even setting for me to transfer the grades automatically from Google Classroom. Posting things on Sycamore is VERY difficult and time consuming. If Sycamore does not do something to fix these problems, then as soon as Google Classroom can process money, Sycamore will soon be obsolete. Google Classroom is compatible with nearly every educational app. I have not once seen Sycamore's brand on an educational app. Get with it soon Sycamore, or your company will be gone. **Recommendations to others considering Sycamore:** I would not try to connect or transfer grades from Google Classroom, until Sycamore has their engineers do a simple fix. **What problems is Sycamore solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sycamore allows us to do a lot of financial transactions, but I am not sure there are many benefits that Sycamore has, compared with other school apps. It makes communicating with co-workers easy. Communication is such a huge part of education, using Sycamore makes communication very easy. Another portion of Sycamore that I like is the great customer support that they have. Through the program, there is a built in feature for direct messaging with the support staff at Sycamore. **What do you dislike about Sycamore?** It is not compatible for schools with few students. I understand that it doesn't always benefit to service a small school, but it may help the small school grow if they were able to use Sycamore. **Recommendations to others considering Sycamore:** This is beneficial to all schools that are currently seeking a SIS. When I'm grading, it tells me if a student was absent on the day of the assignment and that was really helpful. **What do you dislike about Sycamore?** Navigation throughout the website is not intuitive. It took me a while to learn how to use the system and I consider myself pretty good with technology. Links bring you to pages that you wouldn't expect, and you have to go through multiple buttons just to take attendance (at least that's how our school's Sycamore was set up). **Recommendations to others considering Sycamore:** Sycamore is a good program for the low cost that you get it for. If you are willing/able to spend a little bit more, though, there are other programs that can do more (like chart and graph grades, etc.). **What problems is Sycamore solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a school, we used Sycamore to grade and send out report cards in an organized way. It allows for organization of documents, tracking of attendance, management of schedules, and posting of grades. **What do you dislike about Sycamore?** Though highly useful as a one-stop website for school management, the interface is not terribly intuitive and the initial set-up takes a fair amount of time. **Recommendations to others considering Sycamore:** If your school is relatively small (under 500 students), I believe Sycamore Education is a reasonably priced and usable solution. There may be some difficulty with the initial set-up, but once all data is entered and parameters are set, Sycamore is effective at managing school information. **What problems is Sycamore solving and how is that benefiting you?** Instead of using multiple school information systems, Sycamore Education puts most of the tools necessary for school management in one place. Teachers can use batch email to communicate with parents, while parents can check grades etc all on one site. **What do you dislike about Sycamore?** They have developed an app but it is obvious it is still in the beginning stages. Parents cannot see Homework or grades correctly as opposed to being on website. The app also doesn’t have all the menu options listed as the website does so there’s certain things you can’t do on app. **Recommendations to others considering Sycamore:** It is great to use and it’s even greater to know they are still revamping it and making it better. It’s weaknesses right now lie in the app use, but they have already implemented many changes so I’m sure in time it’ll be full functioning:) **What problems is Sycamore solving and how is that benefiting you?** Communication with parents and availability of grades for parents to see is crucial in education. I like that so don’t have to do any special submit of semester grades. I like that you can add up to 5 assignments at a time. **What do you dislike about Sycamore?** I don’t like that you have to save out of pages quite often, auto save would help. When adding assignments, I can only add calendar days for th next Week at a time. This can be worked around, but is not automatic. **Recommendations to others considering Sycamore:** Take your time to practice and you can have success with it. It is difficult for them to find their class home pages and work and such. **Recommendations to others considering Sycamore:** There are setup videos that Sycamore provides. Since this system is so multi-faceted, I would reccommend watching each video and collecting as many details about the system that you can. While trial and error can be an efective way of learning a system, learning as much as you can prior to use can be helpful, especially with how crazy the beginning of school year can be! **What problems is Sycamore solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sycamore allows you to keep records well within the system. ### 30.
