What do you like best about Supabase?

What sets Supabase apart is how effectively it bridges rapid development with production-grade control. The UI/UX of the dashboard makes database exploration and schema modifications effortless with its table editor and SQL console. Because it is built on pure PostgreSQL, its integrations ecosystem is seamless—connecting smoothly with any modern framework, ORM, or auth workflow without vendor lock-in. Performance is consistently fast, with built-in connection pooling and database-level Row Level Security keeping latency low under load. Incorporating AI/Intelligence is remarkably streamlined thanks to native pgvector support, allowing you to run semantic search and RAG pipelines directly alongside relational tables without maintaining external vector databases. The onboarding and support experience is exceptional, backed by clear documentation and modular quickstarts. What do you dislike about Supabase?

While Supabase is exceptionally powerful, there are a few areas that could still be refined. The dashboard UI/UX can feel congested when you’re configuring complex database schemas and multi-table security rules, which makes it harder to navigate and validate changes quickly. On the integrations side, official non-TypeScript SDKs sometimes lag behind in feature updates, so parity can take time.

From a performance standpoint, Edge Functions can run into cold-start delays on sporadic workloads, and more complex Row Level Security policies often require careful manual tuning to avoid database bottlenecks. The built-in AI SQL assistant is useful for boilerplate, but it can produce sub-optimal queries when you’re dealing with advanced migrations.

From a pricing/ROI perspective, billing each staging environment as a separate project increases costs for multi-tier setups, and free-tier inactivity pausing adds friction during testing. What problems is Supabase solving and how is that benefiting you?

Supabase solved our biggest development challenge: fragmented infrastructure and slow delivery cycles. Before switching, we spent a lot of engineering time stitching together separate vendors for the database, user authentication, file storage, and vector search to support our AI features. By consolidating everything onto Supabase, we removed redundant API middleware, streamlined our UI/UX data flows, and cut our backend setup time by over 50%.

The native pgvector integration lets us run fast semantic search directly inside PostgreSQL without paying for an external vector database, which improves performance and reduces tool sprawl. On top of that, the onboarding guides are clear, and the direct framework integrations help us ship features faster, with predictable compute-based pricing and a strong ROI.
