**What do you like best about Submittable?**

I love the fact that you can customize the forms at the drop of a hat. If I realize there's an outlier situation, I can quickly customize the form to suit that student's specific need, and then revert to the original form. The autonomy to manage the portal as we see fit without involving IT is extremely helpful and allows us to get things done much quicker. The setup was really easy because it matched our existing process, which made things smoother. I also enjoy the ability to have cross-communication across multiple teams within Submittable, and how it centralizes everything, reducing the random emails that used to clutter my inbox.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

I really don't have any complaints about Submittable. I think if I really had to dig deep and come up with something to gripe about, it would be that I can't use different colored fonts in certain situations, just to make certain aspects of my forms look more digitally appealing.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Submittable centralizes application submissions, eliminating random emails and enabling efficient team collaboration and status tracking. It streamlines our process, allowing form customization without IT support, and replaces spreadsheets and emails, significantly improving our workflow.

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

Submittable has proven to be an exceptionally user-friendly platform for both our artists and grant applicants, who consistently report that the submission process is clear, intuitive, and stress-free. Our independent review committees appreciate having streamlined access to their assigned applications and find the scoring interface especially helpful, since they can view the full application and rubric side-by-side. The platform makes it significantly easier and faster for our team to create new projects, track submissions, and manage workflows. Customer service is excellent -- responsive, supportive, and solutions-oriented. Submittable also provides improved data access and reporting tools that help us evaluate impact and make stronger decisions.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

Reporting tools, although much better than before, can still feel limited when attempting highly detailed or multi-layered data pulls. Occasionally, updates introduce small changes that require adjustment or retraining for staff. Additionally, affordability can be a challenge for small nonprofits like ours; although the platform is highly effective, the cost can feel difficult to sustain within a modest operating budget.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Submittable streamlines every stage of our grantmaking and artist application process, solving challenges we previously faced with workflow management, reviewer coordination, and applicant experience. It provides a clear, user-friendly submission portal that reduces confusion for applicants and minimizes staff time spent troubleshooting. Our independent review committees benefit from being able to score applications and view rubrics side-by-side, which increases accuracy and consistency. Internally, Submittable centralizes our data, making reporting and analysis significantly easier and faster. Overall, it saves us time, improves clarity, and enhances the experience for applicants, reviewers, and staff alike.

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

I used Submittable for a few years at my last organization, and have since got my new employer to start using it. I find it incredibly user friendly (for both admin and front end users) and value the workflow and reporting I can track all in one place! I can quickly and easily put projects together, assign jurors, and analyze results. I really enjoy that everything is kept together for each submission - I do not have to hunt down forms or notes or images; it is a one stop shop from start to finish. I have used this platform for exhibition submissions, grant applications, retail events, and so much more for our non-profit arts organization. The platform is intuitive, even for those who do not consider themselves computer-savvy. Customer support is always great too, they have a wonderful team on staff.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

I struggle to identify downsides. There are a few features I look forward to in the future such as token integration within some form questions, but it really covers my needs well as is.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using the software to collect and juror submissions for exhibitions, class proposals, grants, and scholarships. The software also has wonderfully easy to use and customizable reporting features that help streamline the review process.

All in one capabilities, including reporting.  The software is very easy to use and the customer support has been very helpful over the years.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

We wish there was a notification for when a reviewer finished a review, or an automation for when the deadline for when reviews are due is coming up, there could be an automatic email sent reminding the reviewer. Instead we have to check everyday to and send individual messages.

We moved from a PDF application to an online application process, which allows for easy review.

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

It streamlines the entire processing of forms. Recommendations can be submitted and they directly associated with the form/application. An applicant can start and stop working on a form, by saving it.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

There is no option for a "public" form, but public forms are a small part of our need. We would rather have people be able to save forms and come back to them later.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Streamlines the request for recommendations. It automatically sends emails to recommenders and attaches them to that specific application/form. Applicants can see when recommendations have been submitted too. Easy to mark and let applicants know applications are complete. Easy messaging to applicants about the status of their application.

We have an older plan to keep a rate that is affordable for our small organization, but wish we could access some of the more advanced features on the higher fee plans.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to house all application materials – documents, external links, narrative responses – in one window. We use Submittable for application review processes for festivals, grants, and residencies. The platform supports all of the different types of programs well. As a small staff, using Submittable allows us to keep these programs and the communication with applicants streamlined and organized.

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

Submittable has excellent customer service. I've experienced it as an administrator, working with a dedicated Submittable staff member to set up our organization's program (an application for a fellowship) and throughout administration of the program. I always received quick, thorough responses via their chat or email customer service. Often, I could find the answers to my questions in their online library of "how-to" articles. This allowed me to use Submittable effectively and confidently. 
Their customer service extended to applicants/fellows, meaning that I did not need to answer their questions but, rather, they could contact Submittable and receive a quick, accurate response.
I used Submittable daily to create an application and administer the program, throughout the application selection rounds and with the chosen applicants, who became members of the program.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

Submittable reports export only to .csv or Excel files well. They do not export well to PDF in that you cannot modify what information is/is not exported to the PDF. Since applications in Submittable can include personally identifying information or details beyond what you need in the PDF, not being able to modify what is pulled from the platform into the PDF is an issue. Also, the PDF has the Submittable logo at the top, not your organization's, so it cannot be used externally. The ease of integrating Submittable with Adobe Acrobat can therefore be improved.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Submittable made contacting applicants and successful applicants (who became fellows) very easy. It eliminates the need for mailing or marketing lists/bulk emails from Outlook. When I needed to collect additional information from applicants and/or successful applicants (fellows), I was able to create the right type of form in Submittable and email it to an individual user or in bulk to a list of users of my choosing. This also demonstrates how easy it is to create and format emails in Submittable's messaging system. Submittable even allows you to create email templates. I used these for monthly updates to applicants and for periodic update emails to bulk groups of users (e.g., end of application and not selected).

Submittable It allows us to both accept submissions and integrate custom review and scoring and manage reviewers all in the same portal. I love the customization features and the user experience for applicants, reviewers, and administrators.

I dislike that we can't set a deadline for reference forms to be received.

My team has used Submittable for 3+ years for grant and scholarship management. We receive approximately 200 applications and coordinate a team of 12 reviewers to award about $100,000 each year. Compared to other platforms I've used, Submittable makes it easier and faster to create projects, improves our administrative workflows, and creates a better experience for applicants.

Bright Funds has been the perfect fit for our company. The platform is easy for employees to engage with, offers countless ways to engage employees through a variety of volunteering and fundraising initiatives and provides great insite into impact and outcomes for our comanywide initiatives. The Bright Funds team is outstanding about answering questions and ensuring we are maximizing product features.

There is nothing we dislike about Bright Funds. It truly meets our needs for our corporate giving initiaitves.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bright Funds has allowed us to easily implement matching gifts, paid volunteer time and community grants management. We can successfully launch fundriaisng campaigns, organize volunteer events and manage our entire grant process in the plaform.  Additonally, we can easily see our impact and engagement through the trackig tools offered throught the admin portal.

The back end is very intuitive and easy to adjust as needs arise. Help for grantmakers and applicants is responsive and easy to find. Getting projects up and running is easy, and it's easy to adjust for quality

The few things I have complained about have been updated, like not being able to see applications in draft to support applicant orgs better, that was just updated recently.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Previously any grant applicant or RFQ applicant had to submit a paper application and attachments, often in multiple duplications so that every reviewer had a copy. We are making it easier for applicants and reviewers; cutting down printed materials significantly. As a grant manager, Submittable makes my job easier from the beginning to the end of the funding. The data management across programs has been a game changer as well!

Makes the online application process easier for more people to access.  We're a state agency, and Submittable has created a home for all of our submission material.  The ability for clients to edit their applications has been a great feature, as well.

Submittable keeps track of the submissions to Writer Advice's Contests. Their people have been very helpful when I couldn't get things to work.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

I've had some trouble setting up new contests without help, since technology isn't my strength, but I've gotten some good help. I miss the newsletter that listed our contests.

Not sure this applies. FYI, I still use it for submissions to our writing contests, but that wasn't an option.

Submittable is very user-friendly.  The learning curve is very short and most anyone can master the program quickly.  Additionally, the team at Submittable is always making improvements and listening to customer feedback.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

There are some minor limitations and annoyances.  For instance when you open a document in an application then close the document, you are placed back at the top of the application instead of maintaining the spot your were in the application ... it's annoying to have to scroll back down each time.  However, this is minor.  All and all I love it.

Submittable is providing an easy, efficient platform allowing us to have the majority of our information in one place and allowing our applicants to easily apply.   Submittable makes my job easier!

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

There is a lot of customization available for our Submittable projects which allow us to gather data and ask questions that will lead us to developing better programs for our applicants. It is also easy to navigate as a new user.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

There is a need for a more configured CRM and the lack of one really adds time to our workteam as we use a third-party software to coordinate with Submittable to get the information collection we need.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Submittable is used for our applicants to submit their requests for funding through our grant opportunities. Internally, we can review and adapt our applications to best-fit the organizations we are working with. Submittable takes out the organization load that comes along with one-by-one application requests and allows us to categorize and project manage various applications at one time. We use this product for all our applications and also for data gathering.

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

Submittable helps us keep all of our reviews organized, keeps our team on track, and helps us manage multi-million dollar grants to distribute them to minority small business owners throughout the United States.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

It can be tough sometimes if you have multiple projects going... because you can't assign reviewers access to only one project. Your reviewers can see all of the projects and all of the data, which isn't great if you're contracting out reviews.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Submittable is the only platform out there that can truly manage a grant from the beginning to the end without headaches and disorganization. We are so grateful for this program and it has saved us literally thousands of hours.

Submittable provides a central hub where all documents and communications can be tracked and shared amongst team members.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

Submittable does not currently have all of the abilities that we need it to but we are confident in being able to work with what we have and Submittable's ability to constantly add new features. One big dislike is that our organization (NMDA) shares one account with multiple grant programs so the single email is not effective for notifying when things have been submitted.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Submittable for us is solving the email/inbox clog that happens when every applicant and subreciepent is emailing everything to multiple people. It helps us to stay organized and ensure we are not "dropping the ball" on any step in the process. We are also able to customize our application in a way that makes sense for us. For example, for annual and final reporting, rather than using the USDA templates which previously had no character limits in the forms but then in the online platform we had to input the information into, there are character limits, so then we would have to determine which parts of the information was essential about their product which created more time and energy to reporting.

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

Submittable is easy to navigate while managing several grant applications, files, and funding modules. It is easy to use, accessible to multiple people on a team or within an organization. Keeps things organized and can be integrated with DocuSign.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

I dislike that when creating a Project the form fields are standard and there is not the ability to create non traditional fields or unique fields that would be beneficial to specifics of our grant applications. Limited modification options.

Also there is not an integration to Quickbooks.

Managing multi year grants and integrating with DocuSign.

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

First, out client success manager, Rhi Hood is awesome. She is highly response to our needs and always has something to offer our team. 

The platform is user friendly both on the donor's side as well as the administrator's side.

Our team also likes the collaborative culture of the BrightFunds team.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

I wish BrightFunds offered a some features that we requested, such as a poll on the front end volunteer activities so we could ask our folks about t-shirt sizes, food orders, etc. 

On the Admin side, it would be great to be able to project anticipate totals for recurring payroll deductions for each quarter and the year. Our company like to track was actually given - and what amount has been committed or pledged.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BrightFunds allows us to faciltitate employee giving and volunteer in one simple platform - and it allows us to easily track and measure the success of our community engagement efforts. Our emplyoees love it because it is user-freindly. Our team gets very few to almost no complaints about the site.  BrightsFunds allows my team to focus on the work, rather than managing issues associated with online giving and volunteering.

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

I like that Submittable is easy to use, has a simple end-user design, and makes creating our forms simple. We transferred from a fillable-pdf form to Submittable from one cycle to the next with no problems and additional users, with no extra work on our part or extra stress. Everyone from the team has been very receptive and helpful, and I imagine we will continue to use the product for a long time. We are already exploring ways to integrate it into more of what we do.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

I would say that, at this time, there are few hurdles with the platform, though I could personally go for a bit more customization or a deeper toolset when creating questions/branches in a form. I've got a lot of experience with coding, however, so I imagine this doesn't come up for most users.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Submittable gives us an easy link to point to, rather than having to distribute files, and it solves a lot of technical hurdles by not requiring us to be subject matter experts. It creates what we perceive to be an equitable platform for all our applicants, and it simplifies our review process by keeping everything in one place - less room for human error. I think the best review for the platform comes from one of our review committee members. We love the "open editing" feature and the use of email templates to simplify and automate different review processes. The "randomize assignments" feature is also incredibly useful.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

There are a few features that I'd love to see added to Submittable in the future. I'd love it if the search filters were a little more robust. It would be incredibly useful to be able to create our own tiers that different screeners and readers belong to and to be able to search for all assignments ready to be assigned or currently assigned to a given tier. I would also love to be able to sort by submissions that have been rated by the reader currently assigned to it. Currently, the filter for completed review pulls all results that have been read/rated by anyone as opposed to results that have been rated only by those currently assigned to them.

It would also be more convenient to be able to request refunds independently via Submittable instead of submitting a request to billing via email.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our award has grown past the size that our team could comfortably manage without the assistance of some kind of software. Submittable is fulfilling that need for us and it also allows our readers to read remotely for the award. The amount of manuscripts that we are able to process with Submittable is far more than what we could do manually. We also appreciate that Submittable's platform is more convenient for many in the digital world we live in, which encourages our submitters to find and submit to us, expanding our reach to a broader audience.

**What do you like best about Submittable?**

Submittable is user-friendly. it's easy to build new forms. We are able to utilize it for several different programs that have various application needs. Compared to the cost of other platforms that provide similar services, Submittable is the way to go. Yes, some frills have an additional cost, but overall it was the best return on investment that we found when looking for a paperless system.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

Having been a customer for several years, they recently took away the ability for the "owner" to amend things within the application. While I understand there can be very good reasons for this, I can't even re-send a request for a reference letter to be sent-in or a reference form to be completed. I'm dependent on the applicant to do that. I also can no longer see the email the reference request has been sent to...sounds very small, but over the years I have seen several transposed letters in email addresses. What was once a quick fix for me is now something that I can't even tell may be wrong. I know these sound fairly insignifcant, but they have affected the flow of work to some degree...and, if these are the worst things I have to complain about, it must be a pretty good platform.

**What problems is Submittable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

After years of working with paper application forms -- and making multiple copies for committee member reviews, we looked for an online platform that would improve our process that was affordable for our needs. We are a community health system with a very robust employee scholarship program, a competitive high school fellowship program, and a priceless employee (crisis) assistance program. However, we aren't talking thousands of entries per year (we're in a rural setting), so we needed a platform that "fit." Submittable was, and IS, that platform. On the backside of things, it's been very easy to train committee members to do reviews. I have literally been able to sit down with a 70-year-plus volunteer board member, and train them to do a multiple response application review in 15 minutes or less. I am able to make a quick review of the necessary components and then, in a couple of clicks, assign an application (or multiple applications) to the entire committee group. No more copies to make and/or distribute. My committee members can do their reviews from anywhere they have an internet connection -- so there's no scheduling meetings. I am able to design review forms that provide a numerical score for each reviewer, as well as an average for the group. This allows me to determine my awardees by finding a natural "cutline" in the scores and working from there. It's no longer dependent on "I like this one..." and then they can't articulate why. I can see the why in the tabulation of their review. (The point system is not visible to the reviewer. They make their selection on merit not on favoritism.)

Submittable enables staff to view any application - this is helpful when staff are out of the office, anyone can access the file to provide assistance.  
The program has also enabled people who live throughout our large county to be able to apply online 24 hours per day.
Submittable staff are very helpful and responsive when we have an issue.
Finally, the variety of reports that are available to build is helpful when reporting grant administrators, etc.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

A few wishes that I have for Submittable:
1. We are required to keep paper files for the time being.  Submittable forms don't print that great and our paper files look messy.  We also would like to have paper applications for those who are not comfortable applying online - we've had to build our own paper applications because printing it from Submittable is nearly impossible to make look good.
2.  It would be nice if we could make changes/corrections to an application after it has been submitted.

It has enabled us to digitize our application process - those in need can apply 24 hours per day whether our office is open or not.  It has enabled us to build a database that staff can easily access in order to quickly assist those in need.

I wish there were different ways to format questions for instance the address. For our purposes, I had to separate all fields of the address. Also, with selecting the country, it would be easier if United States was placed at the top instead of having to scroll.

We've used Submittable for so long, it was called Submishmash when we first started using it. We have seen Submittable through so many transformations, and each update they do has only enhanced the site and made our lives easier. We have an annual competition that we run through Submittable and it makes it so easy to tag, review, and vote on manuscripts. We can't imagine using anything else.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

There is not much that we dislike. It might be nice to have even more ways of sorting labels (as we use labels a lot), but that is not a negative thing. If the labels stayed the same, it would be absolutely fine, too.

We used to print out each manuscript (over +1200 of them) and vote on them manually. Using Submittable has saved us so much time and energy that we can't imagine using anything else.

Submittable is used to house all of our applications and is the reviewing process of our annual cycle. For what we need, it fits us perfectly! I am able to change and update the applications and items on the fly as needed. I can even walk my reviewers through simple technical help myself.

**What do you dislike about Submittable?**

Some of the updates have reset my settings without my knowledge. I've only found out when something stopped working correctly and had to troubleshoot. Also, not knowing the pricing and setting up the pricing is quite agravating.

All of the data gathered in the applications is easy to download in a spreadsheet. Which in turn saves me so much time. Everything is completely customizable! Without having to contact anyone else, it saves me time and quite a bit of money. Our review process can take place on the platform as well, and with three reviewers to an application, it can be a bit to handle.

We use it as a workflow for managing prof dev requests. It is helpful to be able to make edits to the application or configuration rather than having to go through local IT.

We are not able to sort at a more granular level RE: status completion of some of our additional forms. The report export function is also not very intuitive. It offers many options but after much tinkering,  they don't produce the desired results. We will likely need to purchase dedicated programming time from Submittable support to get customized report exports that work for is.
Also, we have several separate licenses in offices across our larger organization, and it would be great if, taken together, we were able to receive an additional org-level discount based on the total accounts/business we have with Submittable.

It has provided us a more modern application format with strong workflow, but certain features (like reporting)  are still not ideal.
