**Reviewed by:** FREDY HUMBERTO M. | software test automation engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Stata?**

Stata is a statistical software widely used in data analysis, research, and data visualization. It was developed by StataCorp in 1985 and has been a popular tool in social sciences, economics, epidemiology, public health, and other related disciplines.

Stata provides an integrated environment for data management, manipulation, analysis, and visualization. It allows for a wide range of statistical analyses, from basic techniques like regression and analysis of variance to more advanced methods such as time series models, survival analysis, hierarchical models, and discrete choice models, among others.

Stata software is used both in academic settings and in industry, and it offers a wide range of commands and functions to work with data in different formats. Additionally, Stata provides a programming interface that allows users to write their own programs and custom commands.

**What do you dislike about Stata?**

Cost: Stata is commercial software and its license can be expensive, especially for individual users or those with limited budgets. This can make it difficult to access for students or researchers with limited financial resources.

Learning curve: Stata has a steep learning curve, especially for those who have no prior experience in programming or statistics. Stata's command syntax can be complex and require time and effort to become familiar with it.

Not open source: Unlike some other statistical software like R or Python, Stata is not open source. This means that users cannot access the internal source code and make custom modifications according to their specific needs.

Fewer packages and extensions: Although Stata offers a wide range of statistical functionalities and analysis methods, the number of available packages and extensions is smaller compared to some other statistical software like R. This can limit options for advanced analysis or specific techniques.

Limitations in handling large datasets: Stata may have difficulties handling and processing large datasets due to its limited memory structure. This can be problematic for research involving big data analysis or massive datasets.

**What problems is Stata solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Statistical analysis: Stata allows for a variety of statistical analyses, from basic techniques such as descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and regression, to more advanced methods like time series models, survival analysis, hierarchical models, and discrete choice models.

Data manipulation and management: Stata offers tools for efficient data handling and manipulation. It allows importing and exporting data in different formats, merging and combining datasets, cleaning and transforming variables, creating new variables, and performing complex data manipulation operations.

Data visualization: Stata provides data visualization capabilities, allowing the creation of high-quality statistical graphs, such as histograms, scatter plots, bar charts, line graphs, and area charts. These visualizations help in understanding and communicating patterns and trends in the data.

Econometric modeling: Stata is widely used in economics and econometrics for performing econometric analysis and statistical modeling. It can assist in the estimation of econometric models, time series analysis, panel models, survey data analysis, and other economic methods.

Social and health research: Stata is commonly used in disciplines such as sociology, political science, epidemiology, and public health. It can assist in survey analysis, longitudinal studies, census data analysis, program evaluation, and health data analysis, among others.

  ### 7. Stata: A Powerful Tool for Academic Collaboration, with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Stata?**

Stata is a widely adopted statistical software that offers numerous benefits for academic research and collaboration. One of its most substantial advantages is its extensive usage within the academic community. This prevalence ensures that many researchers and scholars are familiar with Stata, making collaborating and exchanging knowledge with colleagues easier. The ability to seamlessly work with others using Stata enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of academic projects.

**What do you dislike about Stata?**

However, despite its strengths, there is room for improvement in Stata, particularly concerning simultaneously handling multiple datasets. One drawback I have encountered is managing and analyzing multiple datasets concurrently. This limitation can hinder workflow efficiency, especially when working on complex research projects that involve multiple data sources. Streamlining the process of working with multiple datasets would greatly enhance the user experience and productivity within Stata.

**What problems is Stata solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Stata solves the problem of efficiently analyzing data and running regression models. Its comprehensive statistical capabilities, user-friendly interface, and extensive documentation make it a valuable tool for researchers and analysts. Stata's ability to handle large datasets, provide advanced statistical techniques, and generate reliable regression outputs saves time and effort, ultimately benefiting users by facilitating accurate data analysis and informed decision-making.

  ### 8. Stata makes my life so much easier

**Reviewed by:** Andrea M. S. | Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Stata?**

The statistical software is reliable and fast, making my job so much easier as I'm able to easily create graphs and other visualizations to help explain the statistical results.

**What do you dislike about Stata?**

It's a bit on the expensive side and comes with somewhat of a learning curve. Stata offers a lot of training and resources though so finding answers to questions is easy.

**What problems is Stata solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The graphics capabilities are also easy to use and very high quality. Has a lot of related features like heatmaps, producing production-quality regression tables, etc.

  ### 9. STATA for Quantitative Analysis

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Josh D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2023

**What do you like best about Stata?**

I love STATA's flexibility and ease of use. I also like that you can use both the coding feature and the drop-down menus! I also like how easy it is to import data.

**What do you dislike about Stata?**

STATA was the first statistical program I used (aside from Excel). Initially, I thought there was a high learning curve. However, after trying out other statistical software programs, I realized how much more of a learning curve those other programs have.

**What problems is Stata solving and how is that benefiting you?**

STATA solves my data management and analysis. It takes the guesswork out of creating graphics and allows me to tinker with graphics until my eyes are content!

  ### 10. One of my favourite Statistical data analysis tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maliha A. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2023

**What do you like best about Stata?**

Stata is user friendly, with strong data analysis capabilities allowing users creat high quality graph and charts. Stata makes it easy to document and produce statistical data analysis . It's especially best for academic research.

**What do you dislike about Stata?**

The cost is high and there is no free version. And sometimes it can be a little complicated to learn at the beginning. For some researches one requires specilized analysis and stata has limited specilize analysis.

**What problems is Stata solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an MBA student, most of my researches and projects heavily depend on STATA. Most of my ananlys require me to apply statistical models and tests and with stata it all works with few commands.
