"Seamless competency portfolios that make student growth visible"

What do you like best about SpacesEDU?

What I like best is how easily it handles multi-media portfolios and how seamlessly it lets us track Core Competencies at both the classroom and school levels.

For context, our district recently shifted toward a competency-based reporting framework, and we were struggling to figure out how to track these skills without creating a mountain of extra paperwork and admin tasks. The district-wide templates in SpacesEDU completely changed that. They are set up centrally by our district administrators and automatically populate for all of my students. Because the platform integrates directly with our SIS, all of my student rosters were pre-loaded for me.

Instead of spending hours creating individual folders, copy-pasting competency descriptions, and setting up reflection prompts like we used to do in Google Drive, the template does the heavy lifting. Another plus is that all the media lives directly within the platform. Schools don't have to stress about sharing permissions, so approved family members can easily log in and get immediate insight into their child’s growth.

From a day-to-day teaching perspective, I love that students can upload their own evidence of learning, like a photo of a science project, a video of a presentation, or a quick audio recording. The audio reflection feature is a massive win for student voice. Hearing a student verbally explain how they demonstrated "Creative Thinking" gives me a much deeper, more authentic understanding of their growth than a worksheet.

The interface is clean and intuitive for kids, so they actually take ownership of their portfolios instead of seeing them as just another chore. Knowing these portfolios can follow them from grade to grade keeps me motivated to invest the time to capture evidence. My understanding is that the in-depth admin reporting helps district leadership track long-term student outcomes.

What do you dislike about SpacesEDU?

If I had to point to one area for improvement, it would definitely be the Google Drive integration. Right now, when students pull in a Google Doc, the system typically converts it to a PDF format inside the platform. I would love to see a much deeper Google Docs integration so students can access and work on their live Google Drive files from SpacesEDU. That way, they wouldn't have to worry about converting formats or copying and pasting share links to keep their progress updated.

It is a relatively minor workflow bump, but making that Google Drive connection more seamless and direct for actual document editing would save us a lot of clicks in a Google-heavy school. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SpacesEDU solving and how is that benefiting you?

Before using SpacesEDU, we struggled to find a consistent way to track student growth and core competencies. We tried using a patchwork of Google Drive folders, slideshows, and paper rubrics, but it was an administrative nightmare. Students could rarely find their past reflections, teachers spent way too much time troubleshooting sharing permissions for families, and district-level admin had absolutely no visibility into whether schools were actually implementing our new competency framework.

Now, with SpacesEDU, everything is centralized. Students can upload and verbally reflect on their own work, and approved family members get real-time access (if we approve it). The benefits have been huge.

More importantly, it has shifted our classroom dynamic from just submitting assignments to actually reflecting on growth. Our school (and district) administrators now have a standardized way to see how we are adopting the curriculum framework, and parents are finally connected to the learning process in a way that goes far beyond a traditional, static report card.
