"Powerful for mechanical design, even better with its community"
4.5/5
What do you like best about SOLIDWORKS?

What I like most about SOLIDWORKS is how natural the workflow becomes once you use it regularly. Moving from sketches to features, assemblies and drawings feels very consistent, and over time many operations become almost automatic.

I mainly use SOLIDWORKS for mechanical design related to industrial automation, machine vision and custom equipment, so I appreciate how easily I can go from an idea to a real, manufacturable component or complete assembly. Parametric modeling, configurations and assembly tools are especially useful when projects evolve and dimensions, sensors or components need to change.

Another major strength is the community. SOLIDWORKS has decades of tutorials, forum discussions, user groups and shared knowledge behind it. When I run into a very specific problem, there is a good chance that another user has already faced something similar and documented a solution.

For me, that combination of a mature CAD workflow and a very active engineering community is one of the main reasons I continue to use SOLIDWORKS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SOLIDWORKS?

What I dislike most is that some parts of the SOLIDWORKS ecosystem can feel more complex than they need to be. The core CAD workflow is very intuitive once you know it, but the integration with 3DEXPERIENCE, cloud services and the different roles/apps can sometimes be confusing.

Performance can also become an issue with large or complex assemblies, especially if the project is not carefully structured and optimized. In addition, some areas of the interface feel more modern than others, so the overall user experience is not always completely consistent.

I would like to see a more unified experience between desktop SOLIDWORKS and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, with simpler navigation and fewer steps for common tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
