The main upside that I have found to SlideMagic is that it has a wealth of built-in resources that make it easy to create your presentation. Not as widely used as PowerPoint, but does have good file compatibility with PowerPoint. The user interface isn't the easiest thing to navigate - uses a lot of icons where text would be beneficial.
