**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

I use Simcenter STAR-CCM+ for CFD assignments and small simulation projects as part of my engineering studies. What I like most is that I gradually stopped trusting my first setup just because it completed without errors. I usually use Automated Mesh, Scene Visualization, and Residual Plots. At first I thought getting a finished simulation meant the work was done, but I found myself changing small settings and comparing different runs before accepting the results. After using it regularly, I became more interested in understanding why the output changed instead of only looking at the final images. The best helpful thing was that I started questioning my own assumptions before submitting a simulation.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

When I return to an older project after a few weeks, it sometimes takes a while to remember why I used certain simulation settings. Unless I leave clear notes for myself, understanding my previous workflow can be slower than expected.

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Earlier, I treated simulation results as something to collect for reports without spending much time comparing different approaches. Now I run small variations, observe how the results change, and only then decide what to include in my assignment. As a result, I rely less on the first output and more on the reasoning behind my conclusions.

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

The visualization is the part I like most. It makes it easy to see the airflow and how it moves around the model, for example around a car. That helps me understand the results more clearly, instead of relying on numbers alone. I also like that everything is in one place, so I can set up the simulation, run it, and review the results without switching between tools. After using it for a while, the interface feels fine overall and is manageable to work with.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

I didn’t run into any major issues while using it. For my needs, it worked well and delivered the results I expected.

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me check the airflow and overall performance of designs before actually building them. For example, with a car model, I can see how the air behaves around it and make changes early in the process. That saves time and reduces the need to run multiple physical tests

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

I like that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ keeps everything in one place. From meshing to setup, running the simulation, and checking results, I don’t need to keep switching between different tools.

The meshing process is also something I really like. It is quite smooth and saves time, especially for creating surface mesh, volume mesh, and prism layers. Another useful thing is that I can monitor the results while the simulation is running, which helps me catch mistakes early and understand the flow behavior better.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

I feel STAR-CCM+ can improve its user interface a bit. Sometimes there are too many options shown in table format, and it takes extra time to find simple tools. A few more direct buttons, shortcuts, and a cleaner toolbar would make it more comfortable to use.

Also, when the model size or mesh count becomes high, the software can become slow and heavy. So if the performance becomes smoother for large simulations, it will be much better for day-to-day CFD work.

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

I like the breakdown of the interface and the minimal clicks needed to set up region assignment. The minimal clicks saves time for sure. Being able to just copy and paste between sim files is brilliant. The compare sim files function is probably my most useful tool. I can correlate probe points freely to match the test bed set up. The initial setup was easy.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

{"I wish the creating reports automatically created plots & monitors from the offset","I often forget to create the monitors so I don't get to the data out, or it's hindsight that fuels it. I run my simulations for 24 hours+ so when you miss something it's annoying","mass flow from inlet to outlet, pressure drop (total & static)"}

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for CFD fluid flow analysis on engines and underhood assessments. It lets me correlate probe points freely to match the test bed setup. The minimal clicks for region assignment saves time, and copy-pasting between sim files plus the compare sim files function is my most useful tool.

Star CCM helps us to solve mainly hydraulic problem in conception and realisation. We develop use of CFD to other use like acoustic and thermic when we can have a quick answer to a question

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

STAR-CCM+ has one of the best UI's for a CFD software. I have been using it for nearly 18 months, and it only took me about a month to get aclimatized to the software. Everything is well laid out and quite intuitively in chronological order of a simulation setup. There is also a massive help guide and forum base that provides ample information for 95% of the simulations, which allows beginners to learn and improve their skills quickly.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

STAR-CCM+ can be computationally heavy, especially on windows. GPU support was only added to windows in the 2025 version which held back a lot of potential progress possible with GPU accelaration.

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Developing a high performance aerodynamic package and cooling system for a formula student car. A capable platform to simulate and validate the performance of these subsystems at varying levels of accuracy and resolution. This speeds up our development time and quality massively.

I like that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ balances user-friendliness with power. The single integrated environment from CAD to postprocessing is intuitive, which makes it easier to manage complex models. The community support and extensive documentation, whether through Siemens Support Portal or technical forums, are invaluable for finding solutions to niche physics challenges. The software's robust physics solvers and automated meshing allow me to validate experimental data with high precision. It also effectively solves the challenge of accurately predicting buoyancy-driven flows and provides a high-fidelity visualization of heat distribution. Additionally, I appreciate the monitoring capability of the simulation solutions and found the initial setup relatively easy compared to open-source CFD codes.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

I wish it also provided an AI agent that can answer my questions about software usage. A dedicated AI agent that is trained with all the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ related documentation and example cases, which can answer mostly all questions related to its usage.

I use Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to solve the challenge of accurately predicting complex thermal hydraulics phenomena. It provides high-fidelity visualization of heat distribution and streamlines our validation process, allowing us to ensure safety margins in nuclear-grade cooling systems.

I love that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ serves as a single platform for preprocessing, solving, and post-processing, eliminating the need to switch between different software. This integration is incredibly efficient, offering quick access and simplifying modifications, which is especially beneficial for my work as a CFD engineer. The variety of meshing options available, such as automated meshing, polyhedral meshing, and prism layering, is impressive and enhances the flexibility and precision of my simulations. Additionally, compared to the software I used before, Powerflow, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ provides a broader range of options for creation and solving, significantly improving my workflow. The initial setup was also easier than with Powerflow, which adds to the overall user-friendliness of the product. Overall, these features make Simcenter STAR-CCM+ a standout tool in CFD simulations, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to others.

What I like most about Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+ is how it brings the entire simulation process into one platform. Being able to handle meshing, solving, and post-processing in the same environment makes the workflow much more efficient. Once you get past the learning curve, it becomes an incredibly powerful tool for solving complex engineering problems and quickly testing design changes.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

One downside of Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+ is that the learning curve can be quite steep, especially for new users. The software is extremely powerful, but that also means it can feel overwhelming at first. Some simulations can also be very demanding on hardware and take a long time to run, but overall the capabilities make it worth the effort.

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A key project where Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+ helped me solve a major challenge was optimising the motor heatsinks for our Formula Student electric race car. We were concerned about motor temperatures during sustained high-load running, which could affect performance and reliability.

Using CFD, I analysed airflow and heat transfer around the heatsink design, identified areas of poor cooling, and made targeted changes to fin geometry and airflow paths. This improved the cooling efficiency and reduced predicted peak motor temperatures, giving us greater confidence in the motor’s performance during endurance events while also saving time and cost by reducing the need for physical prototypes.
