## Sciwheel Reviews
  ### 1. Best reference manager

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pere P. | Adjunct professor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

I have been using Sciwheel (previously F1000Work) for 5-7 years, and it's the best reference manager I have tried. I started using it because it was the only ref manager for google docs. I don't know if it's still the case. It's easy to use, and the libraries are easy to manage. It's possible to share projects with students and collaborators. The tool has an option to highlight from an article, and it shows the progress in a log form, which it's handy to follow students' progress and to write article's introduction and discussion. Of course, it has all the elements of a good reference manager and provides citation formats from a comprehensive list of journals. Also, the customer service is highly efficient and very open to implementing recommendations from users.

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

It's hard to find anything I dislike from Sciwheel because this piece of software has been handy, especially during the last two years, but I would improve the "notes" section

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Sciwheel to write research articles and proposoals. Also, to keep track of new articles and store references into different projects that I share with students.

  ### 2. Best software for references

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelsey K. | Graduate Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

Sciwheel is intuitive and maximizes efficiency. My favorite tool is the find citation marks. When writing, you use {} with text inside, and you can go back at the end of a writing session to attach all the papers. This feature makes my life so easy. It has a database of every journal citation style. Your projects folders will also have reference suggestions to help fill in holes and keep your literature up to date. Changing citations from (author year) to Author (year) is so easy!

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

I wish I could set my own default citation styles so I never have to search for the journals I use.

**Recommendations to others considering Sciwheel:**

If you need support, this is the reference manager to use. They never use support bots! If you need easy and fast, this is the service. The price is also worth it to get the updates in technology so quickly or get your suggestions incorporated into the updates.

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Not only does sciwheel effectively store my notes from papers, but it helps me catalog those notes in a way I can access write from the word processor. This saves tons of time! I also have shared projects with collaborators and can store the working manuscript right in Sciwheel.

  ### 3. Great overall, but Office 365 version usability is lacking compared to previous desktop version

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2022

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

-Multiple platforms supported
-Easy to add resources
-Website is also user-friendly
-Many different citation styles
-Can add a reference to multiple projects/folders
-Very responsive support team; they've quickly made corrections when needed

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

-As of March 2022, not a good product for systematic reviews with its automatic deduping.
-It would be nice for the product to integrate with PowerPoint
-The Office 365 version of Sciwheel is not as user-friendly as the desktop version, which is no longer supported. Specifically, with the desktop version, I would select the preferred citation style before I started writing a document and the style would stay the same. Office 365 doesn't permit that, which is very irritating and distracting while I'm trying to write. I want to set the citation style when I START writing, not when I have FINISHED writing. The desktop version afforded both options but the Office 365 version only supports the latter.

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Overall, Sciwheel is a great product our university's faculty, staff, and students to manage and cite references. Several students have shared how much they love the product and wish they had found it earlier. The premium version is very affordable at the enterprise level.

  ### 4. Lifesaver for my PhD

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maarten H. | PhD-student, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

The software makes it easy to create an overview of all your papers. It is fast and reactive. In addition, the plug-ins work very well too. The cite manager in Word is much faster than the Mendeley plug-in was.

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

- The price is quite steep.
- The recommendation engine often misses the point and overloads you with the wrong kind of suggestions.
- Sometimes, the references don't import well from the website, but importing through pdf works well enough.

**Recommendations to others considering Sciwheel:**

It's web-based only, so you'll need internet access to view your papers.

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To organize my scientific literature into categories and keep up to date with the literature in all these categories.
To have easy access to references and proper formatting while writing scientific papers.

  ### 5. Great Publication Manager

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

- Suggested Articles
- Private & Public projects
- Highlighting
- Chrome extension
- Integration with Google Doc

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

- Notes feature is pretty limited
- No keybindings in Google Chrome extensions for highlighting, etc.
- No automated tag suggestions
- Improved functionality for non-journal based resources, e.g., web pages
- Would be great to see some summary stats for one's library, e.g., how many articles saved this week, most active tags, #highlights, #notes
- Better integration with the feeds and the suggestions - I almost don't want to see the feeds so long as the suggestions are working.

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having used both zotero, readcube and diigo, I have sampled the various citation management tools / web clippers. Sciwheel does a great job of allowing me to have a private account and share with those who don't have a paid account which is great when coordinating publications. The Google Doc plugin works better than the other plugins / tools that I have used. The article suggestions are fantastic.

  ### 6. Excellent for students, researchers, and clinicians!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

It is very easy to use; I use the Google Chrome plug-in almost daily. It helps me save papers quickly and organize my saved articles into folders that I can access later. The Google Doc extension is also wonderful and I have used it for many papers and reports. The Share function is perfect for teams working on projects and reports.

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

This is a small comment but when I use SciWheel to cite papers, it will link out to SciWheel and not to the paper itself. I found this a little odd and for any collaborators that do not have SciWheel, this means they would get an error message if they tried to open the citation.

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use SciWheel to organize and maintain publications related to rare disorder cases. SciWheel has been instrumental in helping me compose reports that are sent to treating physicians and include publications and evidence for a specific treatment so that we can convince a physician to consider the treatment for off-label use in their patient.

  ### 7. The referencing and document management tool that every academic should have

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel M. | Postdoctoral Fellow, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

It is a versatile, fully online tool. This does not cause problems with the synchronization of documents and notes as in other applications (Zotero, Mendeley). It was a headache for me to lose on several occasions my notes and references when I formatted or changed my computer. That never happens with Sciwheel. Besides, Sciwheel captures much better the metadata of articles and web pages. There is a minimum of manual adjustments that one has to make to the references. It has also been an excellent source of articles associated with my references. It also was an efficient word plugin.

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

I do not have anything in mind. Of course, I would prefer to save some money annually, but getting the paid sources is definitively worth.

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have not lost my notes or documents again. That is the main benefit. In addition, I am delighted with the accurate metadata capture that the tool has.

  ### 8. great tool for drafting papers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francesco M. | researcher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

For sure, the feature I like the most is the note-taking feature. You can read a paper (or a website) within your browser and write down notes or highlight text portions, both saved and kept in Sciwheel. When drafting your article, this gives you the chance to recover that infos from the reference quickly.

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

A LibreOffice plugin would be a great plus.

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do not physically write down my notes on papers/articles I read to write an essay.

  ### 9. Best reference manager

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giulia L. | Reseracher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

The reference manager works really well, and the customer service has always been very helpful when I had questions or issues. It is also useful to access papers from different devices.

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

The downsize is that it is not cheap and I cannot really recommend it to my students (university does not reimburse for this program).

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Benefits: a reference manager that unlike the others does not crash or have issues. Also a great way to store the literature.

  ### 10. Sciwheel: A Must Have for Research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2022

**What do you like best about Sciwheel?**

I like that the time it takes to cite resources has decreased tremendously with using the program. I also appreciate that there are extensions for Google Docs and Microsoft Word to incorporate citations seamlessly into papers.

**What do you dislike about Sciwheel?**

At times, the program does not transfer information (author, date) from web pages. It provides automatic citations for articles from academic journals, and manual citations are usually not needed.

**Recommendations to others considering Sciwheel:**

Take the time to learn Sciwheel now, and you will save so much time in the future.

**What problems is Sciwheel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Sciwheel to cite references for academic research projects. The most significant benefit is that it decreases the time it takes to add references to a paper.
