What do you like best about SAP Crystal Reports?

Easy-to-use, flexible software that I use for preparing reports, certificates, and admit cards. I simply connect the database and call the required fields, and it becomes very straightforward. I use it for making exam reports, and using VB formulae makes my task almost 70–80% easier. The combination of designing tools and a technical database setup makes the work super easy. Instead of designing 100 certificates one by one, I can design a single template and generate all 100 through the database; the same goes for admit cards. The clean interface helps a lot, and both the design view and preview view play an important role. Wonderful software, even for making graphs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP Crystal Reports?

Autosave is missing in Crystal Reports. About 2 out of 10 times, when the document is heavy, it shows “Not Responding” and the software closes, so my data is lost. At the very least, it should autosave my work so I don’t lose everything after a crash.

Another issue is when I import a PNG with no background: it automatically turns the background black, and I really hate that. Crystal should work on this.

Also, when creating formulas it automatically selects CRYSTAL SYNTAX. I use BASIC SYNTAX, so it should remember my choice, or at least load with nothing selected instead of forcing Crystal Syntax by default. These are basic improvements, and they could make this software best in class. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SAP Crystal Reports solving and how is that benefiting you?

It saves me a lot of time. Instead of making reports for 100’s of students, Crystal Reports helps me do it using formulas. It’s easy to calculate totals: I just add the formula once and it’s done. Previously, my colleagues used to calculate each subject total individually, then the overall total, and then the average for each student one by one. Crystal Reports has reduced almost 90% of that work. Moreover, if a formula works perfectly, I can trust the other results as well, so it’s a huge time-saver.

It also supports graphs in subreports, and everything I need for my daily work is available. It saves money too: instead of printing one page on one sheet, I can minimize the size and print four on a single sheet, which saves paper as well as money. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
