What do you like best about SAP Asset Performance Management?

What I enjoy most about SAP Asset Performance Management is its transition towards more proactive and predictive decision-making regarding maintenance.

For instance, in one of the operational environments related to the field of healthcare, critical equipment responsible for diagnostics at different locations experienced downtime caused by degradation in equipment's performance that was detected during scheduled maintenances. Thus, by implementing SAP Asset Performance Management, operations specialists gained the opportunity to track and monitor equipment performance and detect abnormal patterns, allowing the team to predict when maintenance would be necessary.

In this case, what I enjoyed the most was the opportunity for integrating operations and maintenance workflows, which allowed increasing the efficiency of collaboration among operations specialists, maintenance personnel, and even management in the process of equipment maintenance.

Another example involves an operational environment of fintech companies with specific requirements concerning the physical infrastructure required for processing payments. For instance, such assets as power supply system and network equipment should have reliable uptimes to ensure the continuity of operations. What do you dislike about SAP Asset Performance Management?

A key challenge related to the use of SAP Asset Performance Management involves the complexity of implementing the software, particularly in environments where there is fragmented information about assets, inconsistencies within the data or systems, and legacy systems that need to be integrated into the SAP system.

In one particular environment where this software was implemented for the purposes of healthcare, the records for maintenance of diagnostics equipment, facilities infrastructure, and operational devices were kept separately in other systems or even in manual files by different departments. Despite the excellent long-term vision offered by the software, the effort and time that needed to be invested in integrating all the necessary information into the software, such as asset hierarchy and maintenance history, was far more significant than had been estimated. What problems is SAP Asset Performance Management solving and how is that benefiting you?

SAP Asset Performance Management addresses the serious problem associated with unexpected equipment failure, disjointed maintenance monitoring, and poor maintenance management in enterprise settings.

For example, in a healthcare-related operational environment, diagnostic machines and related infrastructures in various establishments were monitored and managed via regular maintenance activities, manual spreadsheet tracking, and ad-hoc reporting. In such an environment, the problem was that equipment deterioration could only be detected when there were already signs of impact on patient diagnostics and other processes, hence causing delays and increasing downtime. By adopting SAP Asset Performance Management, organizations can gain better visibility into asset health and maintenance intelligence and, in turn, detect patterns of risk early enough to initiate preventive maintenance efforts before failures occur.

One of the greatest advantages of adopting SAP Asset Performance Management is reliability and effective maintenance planning. For instance, maintenance would no longer have to rely on a set schedule but rather on conditions and risks, thus avoiding over-maintenance of healthy equipment while ensuring that important machinery receives attention before failing.
